A problem for the merchants, I think. Ever gotten a 1000 baht note back in change? I get all mine from the bank, but noticed the cashiers check the notes very closely at Topps Supermarket now. Wait until the bar girls start pulling out felt tips to validate your payment.

It is true we dont get 1K banknotes as change, but I am pretty sure it is going to become common to see bartenders (and people in other shop) taking your 1K Baht and bringing it back saying they dont have change, and guess what...the banknote coming back wont be the same you gave them...
Also some roadside exchange boots are probably going to try to give you some fake baht...imagine going to change let say 1K Euro...having to inspect 50 Thai banknotes one by one...
And if one is fake, they likely will say YOU added it to the pile...and if you go to police its your word (you farang shit) against a Thai citizen word...guess who police will trust and who will end up having BIG troubles

Easy solution - just deal with 500 Baht notes exclusively, as your maximum denomination.

My Thai wife was talking with her mother in Ubon Ratchathani about the fake money. Mother said that ALL banknotes are being faked, with the 1000 baht note being faked the most.
Mother said that many shop owners refuse to take 1000 and 500bt notes. Even the banks are refusing, in some cases, to accept 1000bt notes. And, in one instance that mother heard about, a bank ATM dispensed a fake 500bt note.
Doesn't sound too good for poor old LOS.

Stickman covered this story about a month back, he said happend in a soi cowboy gogo where a dancer approached him and his mate if they could change her 1000 baht for two 500.
They only knew they got done as one other dancer told them it was fake, so they got the 1000 baht note out and said really hard to find out it was a fake.
with Stickman being a Expat and all, can't believe he fell for that as I would wonder why this dancer would come to me where a gogo bar has got a cashier, I would just say "go to the cashier where they have more 500 baht notes than me."

We can trust the Thai will invent MANY "clever"way to make those fake banknotes end up in the pocket of the "stupid" farangs...now is the time to be ready to say NO to any situation that involve you accepting banknotes from a stranger
