Does anybody know if I can use an American bank issued Visa Debit/Check card for debit purchases using PIN (as opposed to using the signature in case of a credit purchase) in Bangkok? Also, is it safe?

I can withdraw money from ATM and use that money but that is not my point.

I have a savings account in an American Bank with high interest rate (4%) but the condition is that I must make 10 debit card purchases in a month using their Visa Check card to get 4% interest.

When I make a debit card purchase (that requires entering the PIN instead of a signature when a credit card purchase is made using the same card) the issuing bank makes 1% of the purchase price whereas in case of credit card purchase, Visa makes the bulk of the money. So, bank prefers that you make debit purchases using the PIN instead of credit purchases using the signature.

I also have a Kasikorn Bank issued Visa check card but I have never made any purchases using the card as a debit transacion. I have always used it as credit transactions and there was never a problem.

But I want to use my American issued Visa Check card to get the 4% interest when I am in Thailand for the next three months.

Any advice? Otherwise I have to move the money to another bank where I can get 2% interest without any condition.
