Deja vu all over again. Just got off the phone with the same cc company that got ripped last august in Thailand for 12K. They shut down the account and issued a new card. I came back to LOS in late september and used the card twice. I used it at two hotels, Flipper Lodge, Pattaya and Majestic Suites, BKK. This time the card was used in England at a sporting goods store for $1700.USD. I will not be charged but what a hassle. It goes to show ya, even when you are carefull you can still be riiped off.

this is strange, the entire topic was completely new for me until I entered this forum, I have used my cc hundreds of times, amex, visa, master, in mps, restaurants, hotels, even at q-bar, not one incident in years, maybe they think my credit line is so low that they dont even try .-)

sorry, you were not careful.. you used your credit card..
I never use a CC over there. I take cash or use my ATM at the banks .. pay cash for everything..
Any time you use your CC (even in the USA) you run the risk of CC fraud..
Use them at your own risk.

Often they charge the expense back to the merchant .. also they still charge the 21% a month to the poor suckers who are in hock and make enough money to keep on paying..
They lose more to bankruptcy as a rule than they do to fraud..

I've only ever used my CC to withdraw money from either an ATM or at an exchange (with passport).
I was warned of pickpockets in thailand and at the beginning I was rather paranoid, but toward the end, I would walk around with maybe 2-3k bahts in the pockets of my slacks (just bills, no wallet) and didn't lose 1 baht. Funny enough, I actually found 500 baht while diving, good things these bills are mostly plastic and dry off well.

Wow, found 500 Bt while diving! I should hang around with you, maybe some of the luck will rub off on me 
On a more serious note, I have used my CC each time I have visited BKK only to pay my hotel bills and some times at restaurants (including the Majestic Suites.) Touch wood but no problems so far.

Yes, that's much safer, but I read in another thread that even ATMs are not safe as some unscrupulous employees crack the password. Wonder how that is possible.
