Hey guys, just had a question regarding exchange of $100 U.S. notes. I will have all my money in this form and have heard that bills must be crisp and without markings to be accepted. Now, some of mine are like this but others are not exactly crisp. Can anyone tell me if this should be a big concern? Will they take any note with the larger face(post '96) and without a tear?

I do beleive it's the older notes that you will have problems with, I've had notes crisp and not so crisp, some with conner stamps some not. As long as not taped together and legible, I never had a problem. Hope it helps and welcome aboard, happy hunting

The only time, I've had problems with worn bills is at the airport in the baggage area where their's a change machine. This machine has good rates, no waiting. No problem changing worn $100 at the local bank.

I think any new style bill that is not dinged up is fine for the most part. There may be some machines that require only pristine copies, I don't know if they use these in Bangkok.

Some banks are picky about the bills they accept (best to ask for new bills from wherever you're coming from). They'll simply say they can't accept them. I suppose it's up to you if you want to start yelling like a falang in the middle of a bank.

But there are always other places that will take it. It's not really worth a lot of time worrying over every wrinkle and imperfection in your bills. God forbid, one of them has a little writing or tear and you have to bring it back.

Every once in a while you will encounter a clueless goofball in an exchange booth. Unless you are upcountry where booths are less plentiful, walk 100 meters to the next one. You'll get what you want.
BTW, this strategy works with almost EVERYTHING in Thailand, even (especially?) government offices. Just don't show any anger, smile and move on. I think I'm batting at least 990 this way.

Also, if the banks won't take that marked up $100, rest assured there are thousands of bargirls who would love to have it. Problem solved.
