It's always better to tell the driver which street to stop on but not tell them where you actually want to go. Get them to stop somewhere like McDonalds or 7 Eleven about a block from the club. Then you simply pay for the ride and when you get to the club nobody charges you extra to pay the taxi a kickback fro bringing you in. Try it, there is a noticable difference in the price you are quoted by the club managers.

Naaaaah. It is not about the meter, It is about a commision that the MP pays to the driver and then the MP charges you extra for the massage. This was explained earlier (years earlier) in the thread.

Mr Alan, I realize that. But if you insist on the driver using the meter, then there is no extra charge. You simply pay what appears on the meter and maybe a reasonable tip for the driver. I still prefer to give the driver a street name and get him to stop a block from the club at a convenience store of McDonalds. I neve tell him I want to go to a club at all. I get out at McDonalds and walk a block to the club. Bada Bing! No touts!

bkkmaster, I doubt they do. That is why the taxi drivers never want to take anyone to those places. Years ago, before I actually moved my home to Thailand and I had not figured out how this system works, I would request the name of a club once in a while, like Eden Club for example, the driver would immediately start trying to talk me into going to a diferent club. Why, he did not get touts from the Eden club for brining me in. Eventually I would simply tell them to let me out at the BTS station at the end of Soi 7/1.

I had a conversation with one of the few taxi drivers that I have not wanted to throttle lately, and he told me that he received "ten percent" for dropping a paying customer off at an MP.
I just looked at him, because I had a hard time believing that they would put fares through so much shit for so little money.
Yup, he confirmed, under further prodding, that he received on the order of 30 f***ing baht for every fare that he dropped at an MP.
That is it. Thirty baht.

30 baht? Wow! A buddy of mine and I went to Chaopaya II a couple of years ago and I hooked up with a girl that I had seen in another club. We talked for a while and I ronically discussed this same topic. She told me that if we took a taxi to the MP - the driver got around 500 baht. That's a huge difference. Maybe it depends on the club. Maybe she was wrong. Who knows? Then again, Chaopaya II is a bit expensive.
