I'll still never forget the time I got in a taxi at Soi 15 and asked to be taken to the Nana Hotel (it was raining) . Anyways, I made sure he used the meter, but you know what this prick did... Instead of taking me right there, he instead drove around in laps up and down Suk. (passing Nana - back up to Soi 15 - back to Nana - back up to Soi 15) so he could drive up the meter. This first lap I was like "what is this guy doing" , then the 2nd lap I was like... biaatch!  I told him to stop and he kept going saying "I take you Nana". I finally had to open my door as the car was still moving to get him to stop. Anything for a few extra baht huh... kind of funny now that I think about it.

The extra charge is when the MP charges you more because they pay the taxi commission. That is how it works at Cupidy.
Yes you can get dropped off "near" the MP, but taxi drivers are not stupid and they will watch you very closely to see where you are going when you get out.
The thing about the meter has nothing to do with thread. Anytime you take a taxi, regardless of going to a MP or airport or anywhere else, you should only pay the meter fare to avoid getting overcharged by the taxi driver.

Take the SkyTrain to the last stop, closest to the airport and get a taxi from there to the airport. Best option, IMO, if you need a taxi. Good drivers there, so far anyway. Otherwise get the Airport Bus at 100 baht. I always take that to my hotels. If I have a flight at 10am, I'll get the bus to the airport before the traffic hits at 7am.
Don't know what to say when the new airport opens.
OT, I recommend just taking the Skytrain, subway or the bus system to a majority of massage parlors. I think the investment of going to the places and studying what buses go to and from the joints, so to take them on the next trip, is a brilliant money saving asset.
Bus #11 and #133 are the best ones for New Petchaburi. The subway goes to Poseidon and those nearby. Skytrain to CP1, CP2, Darlings and just about most of the oils. Boat to CP3 and surrounding MPs. 15 minute walk from Nana to Plaza Ent Complex....yes, you'll be sweaty, but there's a bath, drinks and girls waiting.
Really, no need to take a taxi unless you are stuck somewhere it's getting dark. Send him to the nearest Skytrain station, pull out a map too (he'll see it in the mirror) and he won't go in circles, or bus it.

Can you please advice how to take the boat to CP3 and surrounding MP ? I got info from other forum that CP3 is nearby a bridge on the Thonburi side.
Let's say starting from the Thakin BTS station. Down the stair, get on the boat and pay the 20B boat fare, and what is the next step ?

Ok, here is my tip:
From the airport to downtown (Soi Nana) it's 24 KM
The taxi-meter fare is 146 Baht.
Tollway 2 times: 20 Baht + 40 Baht.
Airport surcharge: 50 Baht.
Total: 256 Baht
Sometimes they forget to switch on the meter, sometimes they 'forget' to switch on the meter, sometimes they 'forget' to switch the meter off between you and the one before you (that's the expensive one..)
Just let the driver know that you know about the meter, remind him friendly (yes, they really forget sometimes to put the meter on) and just pay only the 260 Baht. Tip not necessary, but when I like the guy, I pay him 300.

The only time I have had any real trouble with taxis is going to the airport because my luggage is in the trunk. When taxi drivers have tried to screw me any other time, I just get out of the cab and leave (traffic is usually bad enough that I can do this at some point).

My new favorite tactic with taxi drivers who piss me off:
I get out, and I leave the door wide open.
Then I just walk away.
They have to get out, and close the door, with traffic honking all around them.
I reserve this for the dickheads who say "song loi baht" and think that I am too stupid to insist on a metered ride. Or for shitheads who try to take me on racetracks around the block, thinking that I will not know. Or for asswipes who deliberate get lost, or go the wrong way.
I have sympathy for taxi drivers who do it by the numbers. I tip honorable guys hard. But when a driver gives me that sly, slimy look, and bites out "song loi baht," I open the door wide, I do not say another word, and I walk.
f*** those assholes. I am fed up with them.

I'm dying to meet one of these guys (other than at 1am outside Patpong, which I rarely if ever visit)....no seriously....you guys seem to have it so tough....must be something you attract.....
As for BTS to Mo Chit and taxi on from there to the airport, I use this one..... Hail a cab and say 'Airport'...on the way I tell him whether it is Domestic or international.... works EVERY time.....you should try it.
