I've got a fair amount of experience working in 5star hotels; "...can the lady offer special service inside the spa/massage room ?" Highly unlikely.  She would be more likely to do it if giving the massage in the room (which some 5stars will allow) but even then the masseuses are frequently "not that type of girl" in my excperience and they are under scrutiny to prevent that type of activity even if they are.  you have a better chance (not much of one tho) getting one of the girls to go out with you and do the nasty somewhere else. But that would be more likely (a bit more anyway) to work with a girl from the restaurant or maybe reception.

In general, employees in the room are there only under controlled conditions for specific resasons.

And a word of advice; these ladies are SO tired of the assumption that they are all available for sex (I don't say you make that assumption but many idiots do) and I would not recommend you asking for such; for your sake and the lady's.

I think it's incredibly unlikely that a massage girl in the nicer hotels will go for any extras. It's not worth risking her job for a few thousand (or even 10,000) baht. It will also be very hard to get one to go out with you. If you give her an excessively large tip after your massage and mention where you'll be going that night (or ask her for interesting places that she likes to hang out) then maybe you'll accidentally meet there and something could happen. Or not.

But this seems like a lot of work and expense for not much result. Even if you have a wife or gf watching over you, you can probably find better options.

Caveat, I've never done this, but that's the approach I would take

I have a friend that works in that hotel.. I asked the same question..

"extras" are grounds for dismissal and as the people in that hotel are quite well paid, I don't think you will get what you are looking for..

Head down to Darling and it will be cheaper and probably better anyway.. or to Barons, or to .. list a whole bunch of places???

One hotel that does seem to offer extras is the Ambassador, but I don't know that for a fact .. the women there are not that attractive anyway and what I have seen as action seems to be more male/male .. and as the doors are closed, I am not sure what is going on

I think "well paid" could be misleading. But I think all the staff at good hotels get paid a premium (i.e. more than at lesser hotels) and make bigger tips, so they value their jobs.

But if the massage girl is cute (and you are not repulsive) I think it's quite alright to flirt with her a bit. If the flirting is playful and not aggressive they are certainly used to it and can deftly deflect or ignore it.

Well paid is well paid by Thai standards..

About the minimum anyone makes is B17-18K .. plus they get to keep any tips given directly to them or a portion of those given in cash to the area of the hotel they work in..

given what typical wages are in Bkk, this qualifies as well paid..

Certainly, flirting is OK and who knows they might do more than flirt, but would be very risky on their part.

Do you mean the minimum for a maid would be 17K too? That seems high to me, but not out of the question. I would have expected only about a 25% premium (that sounds like a 300-400% premium).

Can you clarify a bit what you mean by tips handed to them vs. those in the area? I guess I don't understand the "in the area" part. I understand that in bars a tip handed directly to the server is kept by that server and tip left with the bill is shared. Is that true of the nicer restaurants too? I've never seen anyone hand money directly to a waiter which seems awkward to me, but I can believe they would share all tips. But other than a restaurant I can't think of anywhere in a hotel that the tips aren't given directly to the person (e.g. masseuse, bell men, pool guys, maid, concierge, ....).

I don't want to get too specific about the money made in Hotels, but at the Oriental the lowest paid person makes over B20K per month..

tips, handed directly to a person, they get to keep..

In a hotel at say "Rivas" .. when you pay your bill there is a service charge automatically added.. then let's say you leave an extra B40 .. that goes into what we call a 'tip cup" in America and gets divided up among the staff at that place .. this is true in most restaurants, altho in some small places the owner may keep them..

I think that in go/go bars same thing happens.. the extra money you send back on the tray goes to the service staff . how they divide it up, I am not sure.. the cashier has the ability to pocket some of it I am sure, but perhaps they don't.

Oak,

How do you figure? When you speak of the Oriental do you include the huge amount of staff that are so-called  "temp/ casual" (despite being ther for many years in some cases) because the hotel won't make them full employees because they would then be covered more fully by the labor laws? (Not to mention all the long time people that were fired when the new  costitution was about to be passed and Khun Kurt knew that they would have to pay them some big benefits when they eventually quit.)

As for handing the tip directly to the employee I think that's appropriate most places, if done politely and discreetly.

From time to time I've had no problems getting extras from in room massages from the hotel.  Last month I was in Bangkok for a few days on business and stayed at the Montien Riverside Hotel.  I was travelling with a colleague from Europe who had no interest in the nightlife, making it difficult to get out on the town.  I went down to the salon/beauty parlour and booked an oil massage in my room. No problem at all.  Extras were offered and accepted and it was a lot of fun, if a bit on the expensive side.

You might have better luck by arranging the massage at the salon rather than the health club.  The health clubs in Hotels are often managed by the hotel itself, whereas the salons are using independent operations that lease space from the hotels.
