Quote: from Socrates on 10:36 pm on Oct. 13, 2004 Pah ! Still no Greek restaurant in Bangkok ! Anybody been to the one in Patong recently ? IF it is still there ? Cous-cous ? Is there good Cous-cous near Soi3 ?
crepes.co.th/ Very tasty food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner (the kitchen is open all day). Couscous, crepes and other specialities from Morocco, Greece and Spain. Nice decoration, feel like you are not in Bangkok. Very quiet area. Perfect for a date or meeting friends for drink/coffee in the afternoon.

Did someone say COUSCOUS!!!!! Go to Nefertitis at Baghdad Sqaured. That is the confluence of Soi 3 and the sub soi going out to Soi 1. There are three great outdoor cafes; Al Ferdos: Iraqi cafe. I got discount from the owner because I was American. Great Iraqi flatbread (just like you get in Israel) and kabobs. Al Hussein: Paki/Bengladesh. Steam table food and fresh grilled meats/fish and fresh baked naan. Nefertiti: I love this place. Awesome lamb couscous, fresh Syrian salad (some call it the Israeli, Arabic, Lebanese, Iraqi, etc. salad), and great baked Iraqi bread. You do have to put up with Al Jismera thought. All are open 24 hours and a great place to watch life (some of it pretty low) go by.

Thank you for the advice ! Nefertiti = the beautiful one here I come ! Out of interest do the Thais eat Lamb ? Retsina gets its name from the resin. The distinctive taste. Not so many Brits and Americans like it? Ouzo - get drunk on Ouzo, in the morning you have a thirst drink water and then you are drunk again ? Raki - a clear firewater from Crete (Kriti). Better to put it in your car ! Vvrroooomm !! Yasu

Thais generally do not like lamb or beef. The only Thai I ever saw eat in Nefertitty is my LTGF and she only ate the Iraqi bread---ah yes, that freah aroma---brings me back that small Iraqi bakery in Tel Aviv they started the fires at 3AM to get it nice and hot for the morning delights.

A chef friend (a long-term resident and married to a Thai) says that Thais think lamb 'smells funny' (confirmed by several Thai friends of mine). I suppose they don't farm them here because they'd probably die in the heat.
