Any Mexican food I have tried in LOS was not worth a second visit. So now when auditioning a Mexican Eatery in LOS, I first order a Margarita. If they can make a decent Margarita, I may give the food a try...if the tortilla chips and salsa pass muster.

This place is far above any other Mexican restaurant in LOS, and the margaritas are quite good too, with choice of mixed or blended. Happy hour runs from 2PM to 7 PM.

Sour cream is not an ingredient of Mexican cuisine. That is a USA invention to substitute for the real thing.

... pardon me, S M E G M A, but you are in waaay deep water here, where you cannot touch bottom when you get into trouble... we are having a serious and highly technical discussion (bordering on philosophical) on the many varieties of Mexican cuisines.

... your simplistic blurb announces to all of us that you are still in water wings when it comes to serious Mexican... stick to what you know best... ummm, Taco Bell? (a ubiquitous American fast food abomination serving something they CLAIM as Mexican).

(... sorry, S M E G M A... you didn't deserve that little rap, but you sort if did [my Thai ambiguity surfacing here]... I will try to keep this on the high levels to which the web master, members and you expect on this forum).

... now, S M E G M A (Grasshopper), listen up here... focus... by claiming sour cream is not a traditional Mexican ingredient, you are but 1/2 correct... and that won't even win you a plate of beer soaked day old tostados and wet cigarette butts.

... indeed, sour cream is NOT a traditional ingredient in INTERIOR Mexican cuisine... but, neither are the popular jalapenos for which most people identify the more popular Norte Americano Mexican cuisines... sour cream IS, however, very typical of the California-Mex region.

... like generalizing about French reds, generalizing about Mexican food is fraught with dangerous consequences... be careful out here, Grasshopper.

... as BBQ, politics and religion, Mexican food is spiritedly debated and vigorously defended by admirers who claim THEIR own regional mutation as the only TRUE Mexican cuisine... while Texans, as Alan and I, are committed to the worship of Tex-Mex, and will unlikely ever convert (sort of like a Southern Baptist answering the door to a smiling, shining Mormon tag team), I've learned to accept that there are many pathways to practice our faiths.

... I've learned to respect them all... except those mother-f***in' infidel bastards at Taco Bell!... no, sir!... f***in' pluck their eyes from their wretched skulls and jam an ugly and used-up old katoey's cock up their writhing ass, by gawd!

Any Mexican food I have tried in LOS was not worth a second visit.

... and you, CalEden, I hear you brother... the hunger for good Mexican by the flesh is hard to deny.

... and your technique for easing into a Mexican joint is good counsel for all of us spiritually lost Mexican cuisine lovers out here... the disappointment of bad, really bad Mexican is hard to bear... could drive a man to a bag of imported Doritos and locally-made salsa.

... still, if you've not tried Los Cabos, give it a shot... as you, I am the cynic's cynic on this stuff... ease into it... first, Margaritas... then tostados and guac... then the full dose... I think it might hold you until you can get back to your own neighborhood taquerilla of worship.

... also, in Chiang Mai, I found Miguel's Cafe... described elsewhere in this thread... started by a San Diegan Mexican, it rates pretty darn good.

... either of these might save you from stooping to the gutter Mexican some of the uncleansed members here stoop... keep the faith, brother.

... note my encouragement to CalEden above (... either of these [recommended restaurants] might save you from stooping to the gutter Mexican some of the uncleansed members here stoop... keep the faith, brother).

... here in Bangkok, far from proper Mex of any stripe, eating at at Taco Bell, or El Pollo Loco (if such abominations existed here) might be overlooked as a fanciful indiscretion with the heathens who don't really KNOW Mexican.

... but, holy crap, LY, you would eat at one in the States!... I am sure the brothers here are disgusted at you (and a little bit grossed-out)... if you were not uncleansed going into one of those crapaterias, you surely would be when you came out... Jesus, man, get a grip!

on the East coast there's not much choice, although there are mexicans all over the goddamn place

using their food stamps, filling up the department of motor vehicles getting their ID cards, so they can get food stamps

hopefully this doesn't offend anyone of mexican heritage...
