My fave place is Lemongrass on Suk Soi 24, next to the Emporium shopping center. Exit skytrain at Phom Phrong. Excellent decor, food and service. Waiters will tell you what's very tasty the night you are there, or order off the menu. Food is fresh, and well prepared. Always order the lemongrass tea; the sticky rice and mango for dessert is the perfect compliment to any entree. Bon Appetit!

Thanks BK, Cabbages & Condoms is again the best I have been to. But did not like Ban Khun Mae this time too much (poor service probably because of a bad English) though it is very inexpensive. Did not go to Phrik Kee Noo as they said that it was in Silom area and the traffic in Bkk has really become worse since 2002. So did not take a risk and went downstairs to Basil in Sheraton Sukh. It is only about 50% more expensive than C&C but I definitely enjoyed it. Great service and superb decor. Food quality is similar to C&C.

I think your post was about places you visited in 2002?
Any outstanding ones you found this time that you could add to this thread instead of ones from 2002?

Great service and superb decor. Food quality is similar to C&C.
Can't be up to much then, C&C is decidedly second rate in my opinion, poor quality meat and overpriced. Nice ambience though.

Two I can highly recommend..
1/ Down near the river on Silom directly across from the Central Dept Store is Maria's.......... nice decor w table cloths, good array of food, Italian, Western, Thai.... I love their lasagne and garlic bread.
2/ Between Soi 3 and 3/1, first right turn as you walk up Soi 3... down on the left side before you hit 3/1 is an Egyptian restaurant.... great food and not expensive at all. Arias is a sort of chicken quesadilla except with lamb; the lamb and chicken rolls wonderful, great humus and big round toasted falaffel type bread.... and it comes to about 2-300B/person.

Was at the Lemongrass (Soi 24) in June this year. Was less than impressed. Basically it was IMHO an over priced tourist trap with small, expensive food portions and the standard of the food was lower than the beer gardens in Soi 23 and Soi 8 that I've frequented.
The staff play acted at being polite and helpful whilst swapping remarks about us to each other in Thai which I understood but the other "farangs" who had invited me didn't - I insisted on paying the bill just so I could refuse to leave a tip.

I agree the service at Lemongrass has gone downhill. About a year ago it was good though. Try Rot Sabieng on Suk Soi 11. Hideous Kanchanaburi Railway mock-up inside but good food and if you are a footy fan they show the games on a massive outdoor screen. They also have live music (last weeks singer was foxy as, don't know if she's a regular).

The Love Shack on soi 23 (just round the corner from Soi Cowboy) is a great place to take your bargirl and great for eating at 5.00 am on your way back from partying at Bali Disco in Ratchada
