What are the differences between the Superior room and Deluxe room in Thara Patong Beach Resort Hotel ?
Except the room size.
There are two types of rooms – superior and deluxe.
Superior rooms are located in the 3-floor building near the small swimming pool.
Deluxe rooms are in 4-floor building (farther from the hotel entrance) near the big swimming pool.

Deluxe rooms are better than superior. They have different types of superior depending on which buliding you get. The superior I looked at had old carpeting but seemed adequate. The superior that they show on their website looks like my deluxe...did I get taken or are the pics wrong? I stayed in a deluxe and a standard. They try to hide the standard for good reason, they are old. There are at least 4 buildings and 2 separate pools. The deluxe I was in is near the large pool and in a 3 or 4 floor building.
After my last visit, I can't recommend the hotel. I found out that security was hassling my BG of the week. I went down with her the second morning to get her id and the front desk told me security had it. Went and found security in the alley out back and they were intolerably rude to both of us. After calmly taking their crap, I went back to the front desk and told them to have her id and my bill ready when I finished packing. Security was way too power happy, and to try it on a paying guest. The girl was fairly new to Phuket and not a troublemaker.
Anyways, I moved next door to The Salathai. Better place. Comfortable rooms, safe in every room, nice pool, friendly staff and cheaper.

I am going along with my Korean wife, and I will look forward to see how the security at Thara Patong will hassle if they think she is Thai BG (by their mistake).

With your wife, you should have no problems at all. If cash is not an issue, there are rooms that have their own pool access.
I was told that security was an outside firm and there were lots of complaints. There should be a new group in place by now anyway. I was just amazed that they started in on me. I have seen BG's being trealed badly by security and staff at other places, but never the guest. It was just weird.

Stayed there in May of last year. Never had a problem with the security. Booked a poolside room on the ground floor. You can just walk into the pool from your room patio. Room was decent at best but the poolside location was wonderful. Breakfast buffett was included and was quite good. I had a good time there and was glad to find out it was not damaged by the Tsunami. On the possible mistaking your Korean wife for a TBG, trust me, she will not be mistaken for a TG. Koreans look way different than Thais.

I have had quite a few friends stay at the Thara Patong. Yes, they prefer the new four story deluxe wing.
None of them have reported and problems taking sleeping partners home; although one told me that he had to look out for an large American chap wearing Hawaii shirts who apparently lounges around the lobby leering with distain at visiting lassies. Perhaps by now the mangement has done something about him.....unless he is the manager?

I stayed there, in both types of rooms, a year and a half ago. Wasn't hassled by security, just walked past them. Wasn't concerned about girl leaving ID with in-room safe.
I was disappointed with the standard room, the bed squeeked loudly. All the neighbors must have known when I was shagging. Upgraded to the deluxe on the ground floor with poolside access. Very nice to slide open the door and just step into the pool.
The hotel was having a promotion, stay 3 nights, get one night free. To their credit, they gave me a free night in the deluxe after I had paid for 3 nights in standard.

Did you have one of the standards with a connecting door. I had one on my first trip with the 3 inch gap under the door and a very noisy bed...I am sure they heard every word.
I never had a problem going past security. It was only by accident that I found out that the girl I was with had trouble with security. She mentioned that it took a long time the previous morning to get her ID. I went with her the next morning and for some reason they were not keeping the id's at the front desk but in the security shack in the back alley. When I got there, it was wierd, like I stumbled into the middle of some illicit operation. Some odd looks, a lot of security guys and some other people. No smiles and a lot of pointing to the bench and some other stuff that I did not understand.
This was in April/May 2004. They also had a new joiner policy on their website. Perhaps trying to upgrade their image. I don't see that policy anymore.
On both of my other visits I had no problems but then I never left at the same time as the girls so don't know if they did.
I was on vacation and did not need the grief so I checked out

FYI: You may want to try the Salathai next door. No joiner fee, right next store and the "condo/duplex" accomodations are pretty nice. MAX
