Just returned from Patong and yes, virtually everything closes at 1AM. Bananna Disco stayed open a bit longer, but the combination of crowd, loud, and entrance fee kept me away.
I didn't think the closing was such a tragedy, since It just makes you make a decision a little earlier.
BTW: Don't ever get roped into staying at the Patong Beach Hotel--absolutely not gir friendly. Bt 3000 joiner fee! I didn't and wouldn't pay it--just rent a room someplace else. What a rip!

stayed there on my first ever visit to Thailand and the joiner fee was 500.......inflation has certainly gone crazy.
but after a couple of Days I discovered there were 2 more entrances which bypassed the Security Guy and you could get your chosen GF for the Night into the complex for free.......
but I would never stay there again,too posh for an oik like me.....
