I stayed in Karon with a buddy from this board. I'm still undecided on Karon. It's real laid back compared to Patong. I'd give it like a 6/10.
We did find a "shrimping" place on one of the main roads.....try to catch as many king prawns as you can and they cook them for you. But it was like nearly impossible to catch even one. Oh well....it was nice killing some time with a few Changs.
My buddy stayed at Arcadia and said it was pretty expensive.

Nice beaches and a dive or two?
Patong is for mongering, not nice beaches and dives.
However. there are several dive trip shops there, PhiPhi is great for diving, 10 to 20 m visibility and a lot of marine life and beautiful corals. Similan Islands live aboard dive was good but 3 or 4 days diving with no pussy!!
Don't take Thai girls on a boat. They may go but will hate it, most girls don't even like the beach unless it is under trees in the breeze.
Phi Phi, maybe 2 hrs from Patong by minibus and boat. Better to stay for a day or two. Thin on the ground for girls though.
Beaches? Several good beaches 5 to 25 mins drive SOUTH of Patong. My fave is Rawai but Kata and Karon are good. West facing beaches are sandy, East coast muddy and rocky. Locals like Ao Noi on the southern tip of the island. Snorkelling is good here.

So you can’t scuba dive by day and muff dive by night? You have to go to other Isles for the good stuff but no babes! 2 hours! Thank you for the info will have to adjust. If I do go to Phi Phi or others can you recommend a place to stay for the night? I take it they have no beer bars and go-gos? (Might just have to force a couple of babes to tolerate the journey then)

Sound close and I will look them over. I will be looking to go in July but Sept. looks more feasible right now. From what I read lots of rain then, will be sure to pack an umbrella. It will take a lot more than some rain to keep me from going.

Very wrong! The beauty of Phuket is that you have a great holiday environment and a decent night life in Patong.

Phi Phi better for snorkeling. Diving good at other spots like Raya Noi and Raya Yai islands. All dive shops can organize good day trips. Normally the boats are departing from Chalong pier.

Rawai beach is not very special for lounching. Good food at the road side and many boats departing from here to the Islands. (Coral island)
Karon beach is nothing special. just a long unprotected stretch of beach along the road. Limited amenities as well. Kata Noi is very nice though. The regular Kata is just OK. Many better and more beautiful beaches both north and south of Patong. Best beach IMHO being Laem Singh, absolutely beautiful and relaxing.

Manuel Thank you!! I copied all info to handheld for reference when I arrive. So I can dive by day then monger at night! Glad to hear it!! Is it worth a stay over night on the Isles? Or better as a day thing come back to Phuket at night? Thank you again for any and all info, you guys truly are the best! You were all instrumental in making my first trip in March a great one! I know that I will enjoy the Isles with your help too.

The only island considering for overnight stay is Phi Phi. One night will do. If you are reasonable new to Phuket, why bother to go somewhere else. Phuket has so much to offer! Lived there for about 8 years and I am still able to find new places, beaches, restaurants, bars, etc. Do not get stucked too much around Bangla. There is so much more on Phuket and even close to Patong. As I said before, good night life buit foremost a very good tourist destination with all the required amenities.

Great advice Manuel. Will do just that, maybe one day and night at phi phi and the rest of the time in Phuket. When I get closer to going I would love to pick your brain some more if ok? I think I like the C&N so far unless you can recomend another. Will have a report for all when I get back to states.

I have been to the first web site nice photos! I am getting a beach hard on! I used to live in Calif. I hated the beaches there (way to polluted). I went to school in Hawaii, loved the beaches there. I like what I see on the photos lots. I am picturing myself on the beach with a T.G. I liked the beaches in Pattaya and the isles around it, but I hear that the beaches in Phuket are far superior.
The gulf of Thailand is 80 degrees all year I understand, how is the water around Phuket and other isles?
P.S. on a side note
I work in a casino in Las Vegas and they have hired a few new people one of them is a Thai girl way hot! We talk about Thailand Teaches me Thai I know she likes me; I am trying to put her off till I go…so I can go! Hard to do she is nice; a hard worker (two jobs) home owner no kids speaks great English very pretty. She could save me thousands of dollars!
