And, you have the wisdom to stick with a good thang when you find it. Some of us have too much wanderlust. I think that Phuket can work if you keep your expectations low and find the one girl that works for you. But if you want to give free reign to your inner serial molester, sorry, it really is not a place for a pervert like you/me.
But I am told there are lots of other reasons to go there, so why not. There is more to life than serial molesting. I think.

I used to love Phuket. Since the tsunami it's just turned into a giant rip-off machine. IMO, it's now for newbie tourists who don't know any better. Of course, a man can get lucky there and I have many times in the past. You get away from Patong and Phuket is all right. Sorry, but this is going to sound like the Monte Python 'Travel Agent Rant'. The hotels are way too expensive for the quality & location (on another island you can stay right on the beach for 50% less). The asshole tuks tuk mafia (100 yds-100 baht), the obnoxious Indian Tailors with their hands out ("G'day Mate"), the phony hill tribe pests with their croaking frogs, the jet ski criminals, the so-so BG talent, the dogshit expensive soapy 'Cristins, 'the BIB's ''bribe checkpoints', the European families ogling the ubiquitous ladyboys and drunken mongerers late night on Bangla etc, etc, etc. I've got 2 friends who own bars in Patong and I can't drag myself down there to see 'em anymore. If I fly into HKT, that means I'm off to Kao Lahk or Krabi. wj

Quim, if it weren't for good luck, I'd have no luck at all. Keeping expectations low is the way to go, I did and was pleasantly surprised. Other reasons to go you say? Hmm...Let me know what they are...and more to life than serial molesting? Let me know on that as well.
MK, I forget the name of the rd the gogo was on and come to think about it, I forget the name of the bar. Maybe it was Rock Hard agogo?

I guess the bottom line here is that Phuket is not Pattaya (thankfully) nor is it Bangkok. There is less choice & during some of the Thai Holiday time much less but normally the laid back attitude & choice is fine. The Beer Bar scene is good & usually one in two BB's has a stunner (often the Welcome Girl) & most have a lot of fun girls.
It doesn't have the edginess that I find in Pattaya but can usually find great playmates who like a good time. Make sure you look down the smaller Soi's & sub Soi's in Bangla and checkout the Beer Bar's!
Lately (and I have been coming to Phuket once a Month for the past year or so whilst involved in a Project locally) I have found numerous Girls from Bangkok who like the more relaxed attitude & often become stars of the Bar's (100 Baht or so higher BF). Sometime you have to work on these plus the Mummasan before they will befriend you! Worth the effort!

I have to be honest and endorse your sentiments. The tailors and their Aussie "Gidday mate" accents had them on top of my most hated list ahead of the taxi drivers
The real piss-off for me were the package holiday Farangs. I only started to de-stress after ditching the Patong Hotel. Still it was my sorta Newbie experience (I had only ever been to Sungai Kolok prior) so I'm sure with a bit more experience under the belt a return to Phuket could even be pleasant. But like you I would now rather go to Krabi
