Hi
Met a TG a couple of months before. She works in a factory and so far everything is alright.
However, I recently got her ID-Card into my fingers and was suprised to learn that her birthyear on the card was deviating from what she has told me. She told me she was 21 but her ID-Card stated she was 24.
When asked she replied it was a mistake by the authorities and since she has no disadvantages with it she does not whant to quarrel with them.
To me this seemed quite strange. Coming from a western country you know what's in your ID or passport is correct.
Are authorities making mistakes like this sometimes, or must it be a deliberate fraud by my girlfriend?
I have read so many posts in BTF that I am know not sure whom to believe.
What could be a motivation for making one older, since she does not work in a bar?

Jeez, Supreme, it's hardly unkown for women to knock a few years off their age if they think they can pass muster. They certainly don't have to be Thai and/or working girls.
But why bother at 24? Well, Thai guys like 'em very young, and a TG will think she's more interesting to men at 21 than 24. If she's a factory worker, she won't be familiar with rather more lenient farang definitions of female youth.
The most likely explanation is that she sold you this little fib on first meeting, you bought it (easy enough to do, God knows), and she saw no good reason to update the record.
Then you caught her out and she was afraid you'd be angry. I don't know how you handled this - if you'd made a little joke of it, mocked her gently and told her you don't give a damn how old she is, she'd probably have come clean. If you took (or even implied) a confrontational 'why did you lie to me?' approach, you'd have given her a choice between losing face and telling you a real whopper. To virtually any Thai, that's a no-brainer.
Thais just aren't in the business of admitting they're in the wrong, even when they know they are, you know they are, and they know you know. Face is much more important than the truth, which isn't valued for its own sake nearly as highly as in the West - particularly the truth about things which don't really matter.
I'd go with the ID card unless you're given a very good reason not to. And cut her some slack - you have no real cause to suspect she's a fraudster.

I think, no offence, I am spoiled through the BTF. I crossreference answers from my GF with Topics from BTF obviously too often.
But the funny thing is when I asked her about the dicrepancies she told me to ask her grandmother or her uncle, who could confirm that she is 21. I told her I would not care if she is 24 or 21 years. Than she was joking with me telling me that infact she was 30 years old. Even at her birthday there were 21 candles on the cake. BTW at the birtdayparty were only relatives of hers.
If it is all about not losing face than she is going a long way keeping up she's 21.

Well then, I'd say the possibilities are:
1) You're seen as a desirable catch for the family & the relatives are well-trained
2) Some senile but uncontradictably senior relative got her age muddled up at some point, and this has become established as family 'fact'
3) It really is a bureaucratic boo-boo
4) She has reason to fake her ID. If that is the case, I suspect you need to know what the reason is. If it's just work-related, why can't she tell you so? No face issues for her there with you.
Why not plan to turn one of your visa runs into a small holiday for both of you? She'll have to get a passport, and with luck you'll get to see her birth cert. At any rate, this should at least clear up whether its the simple clerical error she claims.

I was born in the UK, and for the first 15 years of my life, I celebrated my birthday on May 23rd.
Then after I nearly died in an accident, my parents found my bith certificate and bingo! I was born on April 23rd. Not a big deal but it just goes to show you, shit happens.
Don't worry about it unless the girl lying about her age is under age and jail bait...
Also along the same lines, I sponsored a girl (I call her Angel) recently to go "up country" and get her ID card.
She had been working with a copy from her cousin, and was scared that the polic would arrest her... By the way, this was not a scam.
It's a long story and I may just write a FR about it one day.
Anyway, she went and aftre about 14 days, she got it sorted. But, while she thought she was 27/28 (it looked about right), she was given a birthday by the local Monks, (not her actual date of birth!) as 01 Jan 1970. She is now officially 33.
She has mixed emotions about (a) becoming a real person and (b) growing so old so fast. I tell her to forget it, its just a number..
The point I am making is what seems quite normal and acceptable to westeners, may seem very strange to Thai's and visa versa. But, that's what make the world go round.

I think it's a good idea to get her a passport. I think than I will have a look at her birth certificate.
Btw I don't think the relatives are well trained.
I am the first falang friend she introduced to her relatives in Bangkok. When we where upcountry to meet her parents and other relatives I felt like coming from an other star. Everyone wanted to talk to me and see me.
That she introduced me to her family an dher whole village is a good indicator that she is serious with me isn't it? I mean she can't come up every 2 month with a new falang.
