I think the standard and availability of cheap accommodation in bangkok has improved greatly over the years.
The first two rooms I stayed in in the late 80's were pretty depressing, though in the last few years I've stayed with several girls who seem to be doing okay for themselves.
Stayed a few times with a current Playskool dancer who lives down Suk 81...lots of girls down there, 1500B a month for her own room, clean tidy, no AC. Some of the other girls were in the same block, made the visits fun.
Stayed a lot with a Soi 33 gal along Phra Khanong...nice building, AC, she'd kitted it out well, saved on a ST Hotel and was close to home in the mornings.....
My regular gik has a large room in soi 22 paid for by a foreign gentleman.

I was a newbie (on only about my 4th visit to BKK) and I was drunk, thus accounting for my emotional reaction. Thanks to all the bros two years ago for not tearing me apart for my pathetic reaction to Noi's digs. Me thinks a FR like that now from a newbie would get quite a different reaction on "this" board.
I have not edited that FR from two years ago, although I feel quite differently now. I'll leave it be, as a "snapshot in time".
It would be nice to be a "newbie" again, but I can't. 
Since that time, I have visited rooms of a number of girls, Noi again, Lin, Nina, Mist, and Dew (stayed overnight there twice). It doesn't affect me negatively anymore, and I like staying in Dew's room, as it is her "home".

I have visited MyFav’s room in BKK a few times, she had shared it with a co-worker but now is solo. It also has a pad lock on the door, and is up six flights of stairs. One of the things that struck me was that about half the things in the room were gifts from me. Small single room with a mattress on the floor, a small TV and CD player, but this was luxury compared to what she had back at the village!

I have "often" slept or at least been in their "apartments". Never in Bkk though, but on the Islands.
The best arrangement was in Samui where I was allowed to use her apartment as often as I would while she was at work. Her apartment was amazing with DVD and big TV and everything. I was only with here one time but often in her apartment alone.
All the rest of the BG lived together with their "friends" from work. Some on small mattresses on the floor and some in real beads. Really bad places which made me feel really sorry for the girls. But it was fun meeting the girls in their "free time", helping them translating letters from their Farangs (who is joking them around BTW) and playing games with them an such.

yeah, I remember that post of yours. Funny, I have never really felt sorry for the way the girls live in these places, perhaps because I live in one of them with my TGF, lol! I guess I just see it as the way things are, in a world that is far bigger than me. Perhaps, after being in Asia for a while, you begin to see that poverty is somewhat relative, and the social structure often makes up for the lack of material things we take for granted in the West. Happiness comes from many sources, home and hearth being one of them.
Not to say all these ladies wouldn't want a mansion for themselves and their families. But our apartment has no A/C, no hot water, and is all tiles and cement. And we're reasonably happy there. Everytime I start pushing to find a new place with "all the amenities," my TGF becomes moody -- apartment hunting with her is like arm wrestling with a wolverine. Not a fun sport. I think part of it is her sense of "this is OUR home" and part of it is sheer inertia. Regardless, we are still in the same place, as my cheap charlie instincts overtake my better judgement: "you mean you want to charge 2 baht EXTRA for hot water and aircon?? No way!!"

Ah the fun of using a bowl to pour bangkok warm tap water over your head to wash up in the morning.  Quite a resfreshing way to invigorate your soul after a night of debauchery. I wish to embrace that feeling.
My girl always worries that I will shock one of the school kids if they saw my pale nakedness walking in front of the balcony door.  Shit we were five floors up from the ground and the school was a couple hundred yards away. The kiddies would have to be searching with binoculars down there in on nut!
It is nicer than the cell she had before at ekkamai with no bathroom or water available in the room.

Yes, Noi still works in "Nam and Noi's" Bar, one of the bigger ones in SC. I spent Big Buddah day evening with her last month. Well, actually with Dew, Dew's roommate, DrLove and Noi, we had a pool party at the Soi15LoveShack. Noi and Dew get along OK, although they are 9 years apart (read: Noi likes Dew because I like Dew, Dew likes Noi because I like Noi). It was good to see Noi, we had tons of laughs and I still haven't slept with her.
