The "up to u" is both sweet and funny, while also irritating at times. But it's cultural and we have to get used to it. This is the way they are. In a fit of madness I decided to make a joke about "up to u" by having "up to me" tatooed in thai language on my shoulder. Needless to say, the exact choice of words was kind of slang. Any time any TG sees this....they laugh a lot. It is good icebreaker. Luckily I speak Thai....so I know what the words really say!

ex-BG actually - but from my last experience (not that good) she obviously still thinks like one - time to say goodbye.
I even used to say "NO you choose" after an "up to you"
but no go - still it saved me some cash when she said "up to you" when offerring to buy her a present - I just took it as a NO and walked on.

The "up to you" phrase can be irritating to most people, farangs and Thai alike! Try saying, 'Laew ta khun" (Sorapong please feel free to correct this!) to your TGF, BG, LB etc., when she/he asks you a question!
However, I only get this from BGs and most qualify it by saying, "It's your holiday", which is quite true and shows understanding. Somethin' along the lines of, "I'll do what ever you want until I tell you that I don't want to do it".
On the other hand, my TGF (s) have never said "up to you" as they have always had an opinion on what "we" should do together, prob'ly just the folk I attract!

On my 1st/only/recent trip to Bkk (as reported elsewhere) the very first girl I came across that first night replied "up to you" concerning payment. I was happy as anything - until I found out that I badly underpaid her the first night so my second night didn't turn out so well.
In retrospect I really wish she'd have quoted me a fair price and we'd got that out of the way in the beginning. Maybe we'd have spent a lot of time together, maybe not. However next time I won't take "up to you" as an answer when it's something likely to have a major effect on how the time spent with the girl is going to work out, F.

So basically when you have not judged right one can end up with Sally the Ice Queen or alone.
Happened to me once last trip with a non p4p women I met on the internet, after our first ' date ' bar - landmark hotel I sent her home by Taxi, I asked her how much she needed - Up to you she says.
After quick thinking on my feet I gave her a few hundred to go to ekemai.
On the second "date 'she actually took money with her to go out to eat (first for me in los). We never got out I Persuaded her to stay in and got what I wanted.
I wanted to give her something as she was going away to visit family but she would not take money ( the question is for how long as we all know ) so the difference between p4p and non p4p is strong and its easy to offend either way. By implying shes a whore or otherways implying she will f*** you for free.
Up to you soon disappears when married or in a long term thing, it quickly becomes you cheap charlie
buy this buy that, want more money, not enough.I dont want, WHERE YOU GO ST LADY slop slop fly loi.
but thats why bars were invented right. 
All the girls working NP and the like dream of one thing
to be a madam, to sit around all day in between shopping trips and watching televion on their lazy asses.
