Apparently so, particularly when one stays on subject.
Case in point - "Speak for yourself", in response to CalEden's original post -- as I certainly do not share the degradation of the experience that he bemoans.
Once in a while, we tend to get these kind of "It ain't the way it used to be" or "the magic has gone" posts, but I can't help but think, reading the chorus of regulars who chime in, that it's a problem with the complainer, not with the girls, or 'the scene'.
Seems to me that it's always the same, certain kind of person with the same complaints - which leads me to believe that maybe the girls have simply gotten better at qualifying and identifying the kind of guy they do not like to hang out with (that's your hint, guys), and treat them accordingly.
It seems that guys that enjoy life, have a generally happy disposition, and convey that same attitude to the girls, get treated with plenty of sanook. Granted, I have only been enjoying LOS for a scant 5-6 years, but I manage to travel there 4-5 times a year -- and so far nearly every trip has been better than the last, and I keep enjoying plenty of sanook, and plenty of fun times with the 20-25 year olds that I pull. I can say the same for plenty of other guys I know, who all seem to share the same impressions.
Then again, maybe that's because we treat them like human beings, and not like 'whores', as some guys do - so, guys, if you complain about less quality of sanook, maybe you only have to look as far as yourselves for the cause.

Not sure if Cal's observation is true or not... but even then: fair enough for me... It's modern times boys... I still rely on the possibility to establish a nice rapport and thereby GFE kinda thing... Had no problems to keep a 90 % success rate in all my BK time, recent or not... So, play the game... learn to date by phone

Well if you've only been doing the scene for 5 or 6 years, of course you wouldn't have noticed a difference. All the factors that the others mentioned - the Internet, cheap mobile phones, etc - were all in place 6 years ago!
I've been coming for about 15 years now and I've noticed a difference. It's like the others say. The prettier girls have more options and I know a few, who started in gogos, who now just use the Internet. It's a big market so, with the sheer numbers of lonely dudes trying to warm their own cocks in places like Alaska, even if only 0.5% are stupid/desperate enough to fall for them, it's still more than enough.
Another factor that ensures that there are not so many pretty girls in gogos as, say, 1998-2000, is the sharp increase in the number of visitors and men trying to stay here longer term. If a pretty girl appears these days, she soon has many suitors trying to take her off the scene. And ten years ago I was a rarity for knowing any Thai to be able to sweet-talk them. Now it's common.

That's a good point, and certainly a valid observation -- still, the point remains, that I don't have any trouble finding good looking or stunning looking girls, with great attitudes -- which is, I think, all that matters.
WHat I have noticed, though, is a significant shift ever since Thailand brought political and economic troubles upon itself -- an every continuing 'low season', and resultantly more girls trying to nab either a sponsor, or willing to make better deals.
