I agree with the basic pecking order as posted by ABC in terms of overall girl quality.
But I have found some great freelancers who are supposedly down the list. In fact my best times have been in that section of the market and it sure is cheaper. But saving money is not my motivation for shopping there. Finding a good looker with a good attitude is.

Remember, we are talking about the hierarchy that the girls think exists, WE don't think in terms like this I hope?
It's a Thai social status pecking order within a largely ostracized subculture (the nightlife business.)
(Damn - I'm starting to sound like that sociology student...time for a drink...)
If the hierarchy exists, it is recognized by all strata, right? That means the MP girls accepts that she is "lower" than a BG, in principle -- although she may very well never admit that to a farang.
I have bought out MP girls for the night (from Takara), and then stopped at a bar for a drink with the mamasan at SuperStar (an old friend) and never noticed any particular friction going on. But, there could have been some I wasn't attuned to.

I think the personal preference mentioned is the most important thing here. I like the beer bars, so tend to end up with beer bar girls (though have a love of soi 33). Haven't been to Patpong since the first night of my first ever trip - then again maybe its improved. Soi Cowboy may be low on the pecking order, but it seems to be a more "genuine" kind of place (compared to Patpong anyway, much less "pushy") - only ever been in one go-go and didn't like it much and I've never been tempted into the more expensive MPs - why not? Just never felt the need, as after working I just like to relax, drink, shoot pool and then, well who knows - unlike Dave I CAN go home alone!!

When I posted about my feeling and observation that the Pong has gone downhill during the time I've been in country -- no, there's not a cause and effect there -- I ought to also mention that when I first got here, older hands told me exactly the same thing, i.e., that the Pong wasn't as good c.1990 as it had been c.1970 or 1980.
I don't think it is a matter of individual burnout, I really do think the place has been sliding more or less steadily since they started it.
Very certainly, I agree with Trink that the Night Bazaar is a terrible wart on Patpong's nose.

My limited experience tells me that this is very probably cause and effect syndrome. The same happens in any town/area, anywhere in the world, that become a predominantly tourist "attraction". In my one trip to Patpong, I arrived in BKK (first time) at 10 p.m got to hotel 11 p.m fell into a tax 11.15 p.m and asked for Patpong because I'd heard of it and didn't know any better.
Never been too sure if it was the general sleaze or the fact that within minutes I was approached by a toothless old hag offering "blow job and massage only 1,000 baht - girl only 14" that stopped me ever going back again 
Mind you my mate went recently (again his first trip) and never left the place - thought it was great. Hmmmm

Never in all my years have I ever been approached by a "toothless old hag offering a bj for 1000 baht from a 14 yr old girl". Maybe she was shilling for some UK television crew doing a bogud documentary on child prostitution in Thailand?
One gets hustled on the (Patpong 1/Patpong 2) streets by the night-bazaar merchants, the touts for bars that need touts, the occasional ladyboy, and that's about it.
There are islands of relative sanity in Patpong where one can enjoy a drink, tak to the girls, avoid loud blaring music if one wishes to, or immerse oneself in it otherwise. Superstar is OK (hello Jimmy), Goldfingers is OK (hello Randy), Takara is OK, Crown Royal (pub) is OK (hey Izzy). Doubtless there are other places but that's enough of a repetoire for me.
AVOID LIKE DEATH:
King's Group bars (hard hustle, no class)
upstairs bars unless you know what you are doing

Basically the pecking order is pretty easy. Where the girls can make the most money is highest, Soi 33 or Taniya on top. Of course all humans need to look down on others, be they from another country, town, or bar. I remember a girl told me one time "I am Washington Square whore, not a Soi Cowboy whore." You go figure.
