ABC,

One aspect of the true Korean culture is that when a koean girl marries a korean guy she assumes responsibilty for looking after his parents not hers. She moves in with the hubby (sometimes in the hubbies parents home) and other times in the hubbys home bought by his parents (not hers). Eventually the hubbys parents live with them when they get older and she pays them the utmost respect.

What happens to her parents, well sometimes they end up living in appalling conditions when they are older and can no longer earn a living. She may visit them from time to time,(not often), but they will never live in the home with her and hubby and she will most likely not be able to help them financially. She has to accept this from hubby.

Now if she marries a ferrang she has a bit more latitude in keeping in contact with them and helping them, if the ferang is a half reasonable guy.

Good points.

It's the same to a certion degree with Chinese. When the female marries into a chinese family she is in essense leaving hers and becomes a member of his. Hense all the traditaional ceremonies and exchanging for all the gifts.

I'm a little more westernize, so ... when I get married neither my wife nor my family will live with us!! ha ha ha!! And if financial support needs to be given to her family then I have no problems with that.
