I don't want to summarize what Haam said, but he is right. I've been around LOS a while too. In my humble (or not so humble as many of you believe) opinion, if you veiw the whole LOS and even TG experience from the "bar" or "nightlife" angle, you are missing the treasure of LOS. This is for people who want to live buy a rigid set of rules when going to LOS and frankly, just for sex.
Treat BG as a dog? Well, expect to get treated as one yourself. My 7 years of experience tells me that treat them like a human being and a lady and you will be treated well and like a man.
I finally found a BG that I fell in love with (and will marry next year). Guess what? I did not take long to get below the Sukumvit surface and find a decent, family-oriented, honest, fun loving, romantic woman. Don't say I'm being bullshitted because I've been doing this crap for seven years and nearly 100 BGs. At this point, I have completely lost my desire for the whole nightlife scene because I'm getting plenty, and more, from my GF. The greatest thing with her is getting out of Bangkok and going to the provinces where she has family and interacting with them.
Heck, this winter I will be teaching English to all the kids from her village in Buriram. This is all free too. I'll be doing that all day and she will take care of me at night. That is what I call fun in LOS!!!

The rule about do what you want cause its your vacation is the one I like the best. I Picked up a girl from the soi 7 one day and she wanted very baddly to go sing karoke. for about 3 hrs thats all she talked about This is about the last thing I wanted to do so I gave her 1000 baht for time and moved on. Its the up to you rule

I think this thread will die soon. Nothing in those rules in the OP that could not have been taken from the board of an only-men club in NYC discussing the dancing halls of early 20th century, where the men went there and bought tickets to dance with girls who worked there.

I suppose each rule, in and of itself, has merit in specific circumstances which might arise. And perhaps these serve as a caution to newbies.
But I have gladly violated rule numbers 11 and 12, because I have done the P4P scene around the planet long enough to know bullshit from reality. The net out? I now enjoy what kaisersoldaten describes: getting out of BKK, seeing the provinces, the mooban, and knowing there is someone there for whom I care and who cares about me.
Yes, not for the faint hearted, and it is wise to be cynical, considering the nature of the beast, but I always forget my own rules as soon as I walk into the door ... after all, I met my TGF the first night I was in LOS.

1) Deal with your self-esteem problems BEFORE arrival.
2) Take people as you find them.
