Anyone have any idea about Thai divorce rates? Officially as well as those who get married and then live apart without the official paperwork done?
Maybe the issue isn't westerners seeking miss perfect, maybe the nuimbers will speak for themselves within Thailand... they don't stay together any more than westerners do.
If it turns out that 1 out of every 2 marriages in the US ends in divoce, maybe the rates are the same or higher here among Thais themselves. This could help keep long term chances in perspective.

some/many of my former co-workers married BGs.
many came from Tim's Bar in Pattaya, some from Butterfly Bar, and of course some from the bars in Banchang.
Many have done just fine. One guy got a gal from Banchang with an incredible set of bOObs, about 1/3 his age and just a stunner. I figured it would last about 3 months. 8 years later, two kids and still together. She had to get her breasts reduced by surgery after the pregnancies, and she's even more of a stunner now.
I'll be seeing them both next month at the Jester's/Fountain of Life Children's Fair
another couple was matched in Tim's Bar, back when it was an open air Beer Bar down on Beach Road. Still together and living/working in China. (maybe FM's workmate)
Plenty of others. One fella lives in Banchang with his former BG wife, and now works next to Landmark hotel, hence some of my visits to NEP (55 55)
Some can't make a go of it, mostly due to jealousy. The guy will bring up her past in the midst of a hi-powered argument and that's IT. They absolutely SH!T and try and cut you. Make sure no sharp objects are near..!!
Another mate is in Chicago and loving life with his Chiang Mai girl cum Banchang BG, cum ChicagoLand housewife. She was/is cute as hell by the way, and very pleasant demeanor.
Vietnam veterans all over the place with former BG wives, and they did it "until death do us part" in a few cases I know.
and Jack A. is right, the Thais get hitched and dump each other at a blinding fast rate.
I'd almost bet that the Falahng/BG marriages are better off statistically than the Thai/Thai marriages.
Thai men become (or reveal) butterflies after the marriage, or during her first pregnancy. The BG knew all along that her Falahng man was a butterfly

Going through this Thread ( all 15 pages ) and other similar Threads I get the feeling that the vast majority of active posters on this Forum are those who have had bad experiences with BGs.
Yet on my travels around Thailand I have seen literally hundreds of Farangs with Thai wives ( many with children ) who have settled down in the wives' hometown and stayed married for years.
Is it possible that the Farangs in all these hundreds of "successful" relationships are not members of this Board ? OR are members but do not post ??
This is sad - because their input would add a great deal to this Forum.
I think many of us have heard of Udon Thani where there are a large number of Farang / Thai families ( the Farangs mostly being US Army veterans of the Vietnam war & the wives mostly being ex-bar girls ).
There are a couple of other similar places in Thailand.
And then there is Chiang-Mai where you will see numerous Farangs happily settled down with their ex-bar girl wives of many years.
From my personal experience there is a village in the North of Thailand ( near Uttaradit ) which has a population of only 40,000 but already has 12 Farang / BG families - most of whom have been together for 5 years or more.
And finally here in Bangkok - I have personally met 2 Farangs who are married to ex-Bgs ; stay in small apartments in the Huay Kwang area ( a solely Thai area ) ; have small babies and who appear quite contented.
It would be good if some of the above Farangs could become active members of this Board and give us the benefit of their experience.

I might disagree a bit. I think that most people posting have had many experiences and some of them had been bad. It just seems when one member raises a question about these relationships, most people want to share the dark side first as a wake up call or reality check.
Then it seems a lot of people will send wishes of good luck and hope that things work out.
IMO, it doesn't matter where the girl is from, her profession, economic situation or education, it is work to stay in any relationship. Especially when you walk down a road like Sukhumvit any time, any day and get the smile and look from more than one beautiful Thai girl.
Of course it is the same for them. They are good looking and get lotsa attention from all men.
