Happily I don't know which hotels are the ones frequented by LBs as I am not Gay....
But if you have a list to hand I would know which ones to avoid
By the way I was approached by a maid in the Grace one time for a little 'Extra' she was cute too, but I had already been in action on a Local Yokel scale that day so was unable to help her out.... I did leave a nice tip on the pillow when I checked out though...

If I meet a girl whatever her job is, I give her some money, for example, pay for the dinner, etc. Men are always paying for female companionship, that's our human society. Pressing a little gold into a chicky's palm to speed up the courting ritual doesn't seem like a sin to me. That's part of the courting ritual. Those maids etc are probably dreaming this would happen to them!! "Decent women etc"--bullshit. These women know they're poor and that's why they have such fantasies of getting a "poowa farang" or a "friend to help". Just listen to them talk with each other...
Yeah I'm in awe of the awful working conditions imposed upon the poor in this country too (for example, only 2 days off a month, abyssmal wages, etc). Any girl's got guts who does it. I don't think she's enjoying every minute of it. I believe in charity. I am a charity foundation. Or maybe a missionary position sometimes. So you meet a cashier at a mini mart. You have a date. You get some action, which she is eager to get into because of the excitement of being with a foreigner and the promise of cash. By the way, all women love cash--is that news to anyone? So you give her a bit. Is she corrupted? I think it's just a lucky date for her and that's all she'll see it as. It's not like she's going to run out and jump onto a go go stage after that. Does marijuana lead to harder drugs? Who knows. Why are we talking about people's wives and daughters? Women fall in love, it makes them crazy, then they may or may not do something for someone else for money, that's up to them anytime. You got a wife or daughter you're going to train her what not to do, and you'll protect her from dangerous elements. Stay away from my quail. But the poor in this country, as far as I've seen, don't have any problems with p4p, just so long as it's covered up or made to look like some other form of relationship, such as friends. Westerners say the word "prostitute". Thai hardly ever do. Newbies in Thailand are for instance always disturbed at the Thai ability to ignore the truth as we see it.
Of course, I would stress that if you're a tourist actually staying in a hotel, going around propositioning girls in various jobs speaking your broken English and random mispronounced Thai phrases is not really socially acceptable behavior. One must always have good manners. Essential.

I don't agree with all you said but on the above I'm with you.
I've said this before but IMO slipping the money into her purse or her pocket when she's not looking helps preserve the "friends" thing. If you just hand it to her it says, "This is the rent for your c***". It's all about face. Thais don't like P4P pushed in their face.
About using the "p" word, I told my GF a story about a nasty girl who ripped off a guy I know big time. When I referred to the woman as a "sopinee" I saw my GF was quite offended at the use of this word and disapproved even though I felt the woman's behaviour merited the word.

I can honestly say that I have never tried to tempt a woman [edit in: who is not obviously in the P4P business] to have sex for money...what I have done though is ascertained who is willing to have sex for money and who is not. Anyone who has visited BKK knows the difference between the ladies who are looking for money and those that are not. While I have never had sex with any of the maids in BKK, I am sure that a stunner who gave off all of the vibes and made it clear that they would be interested in more than just cleaning the room would, in my opinion, be open season. If they don't get it there, they will end up looking later on the street for their extra income.
With that said, however, I do think it is offensive to approach a Thai lady who is not an obvious freelancer and asking if she is interested in making $40 the hard way.
As for those that said they would never bang the maid, I believe if she were a nine and flirted with you enough that you would feel sex in this case was not inappropriate. The biggest challenge to this whole scenario is that I have never seen a stunner maid.
