When I first started coming to LOS it was common practice for the girls to help you get dressed after the act. Putting your socks on, tying your shoe was a nice gesture and added to the over all experience.

The problem with the "good, old days" is you tend to remember the best and worst. I first came to LOS in '92, and honestly don't see much difference in the girls.

I tend to agree with Mick's general point, that it is mostly a matter of perspective. YOUR perspective, which changes with time. The girls, they are all still there, constantly being replaced by new ones. Some are great, some are not so great. It is still up to you find the ones that work for you. Don't get too lazy.
I find I tend to remember all the great times, all the fantastic GFEs and Giks, and mostly forget the rest. If this is all you remember, however, then it is easy to begin feeling that the current moment is not as great as the past. But personally I don't think that's true (based on 7 years of visiting). I think all the sanook and GFE and great service is still there, you just might have to look for it in new hunting grounds. But you always had to look for it, unless of course you go to places that have earned the good housekeeping seal of approval like Eden and Tulips.
Certainly in my time, I don't see the internet or the cell phone having changed behavior. And it works both ways of course. To the extent that the cell phone has allows some girls to avoid the bars and build up clients, it has also allowed us punters to make easy arrangements with repeat favorites. As for whether it allows for greater communication upcountry, I doubt it. That kind of information always has and always will be spread primarily mouth to ear.
The really beautiful ones who probably should never have been on the P4P scene in the first place are still being plucked away by sponsors and marriage proposals, but I don't think that modern technology has accelerated this fact of life by much. Perhaps more lonely guys have discovered LOS in the last couple of decades through the internet, along with the increasing hordes of tourist that get touted in the press, but I certainly can't tell any difference in my time.
And this isn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, more punters means more girls. It's all economics. Look at the sad state of affairs right now in LOS. The P4P scene isn't missing girls because their stock market portfolio took a dump and they were laid off.... Build it and they will come.
If anything, I was thinking during my last trip about how remarkably constant the P4P scene in LOS is, despite the current crisis. Degrees of nudity and closing times wax and wane with the political currents, the numbers of girls and punters rise and fall with the economic and climactic cycles, and the once hot club is replaced by a new hot club, with much the same crowd as the previous one. But most things are reassuringly familiar and pleasing to the touch.  In fact, within the ebb and flow of this ocean, I feel most things are getting better, not worse.
The only thing that truly keeps getting worse in LOS is the condition of the rooms at Tulips and Soi 6. And the increasing number of tourists in our P4P playgrounds. As for the attitude of the girls, it's mixed, but it always has been, always will be. Don't forget that and you won't start feeling things have "gotten worse." Please, enjoy, after all, you're in paradise.

I have been coming to LOS for about 16 years and in the last several years I am in country at least 10 times per year. I realize that does not make me an expert. I'm just letting you know where I am coming from. I think when I first came to LOS the shear novelty of it and the large number of available women had a major impact on my perspective. I had a tendency to only see the hot ones and ignore the rest. As my excitement level as mellowed a bit and the newness has worn off I think I better see the whole picture. I am sure that the scene has evolved over time due to all of the things people mention from politics to technology to social attitudes. However, I think I have changed as well so my view of the situation may be different. Having said all that, I know what I am looking for (usually, sometimes I get a craving that is different....) and I go after what I want. It is usually an attractive woman, upper twenties, good attitude who I can talk, flirt and eat with and who knows we have fun together today but that is all there is until next trip.... I am generous, and I try hard to be kind. I know that some take the attitude that if you are paying you call the shots and thats that. Whatever works for you. I find that treating these woman nicely works well for me. So a long way to say that I think the GFE is alive and well and as good as ever if you put a little effort into it.

Well I also have been coming here since the early 90's and do indeed see a difference in girls, plus a difference in bars. Naked underwater dancing swim shows, Girls getting f***ed by other girls in the pussy and ass with strap-ons, the tequilla girl naked, only wearing an cowboy strap holster with shot glasses instead of bullets, a bottle in her holster and you had to like salt off of one nipple and lime jiuce off another.
But a few things that I am glad changed. Metered taxis every other fare was a battle and to get anywhere for a farang was 80 THB and up.
No Express ways, No Sky Train, No Subway. Traffic is much better nowadays.
More acceptance of farangs with "good" girls.

In a simple way, which is how I look at it, I don't think the GFE has changed dramatically, more the farang.
Every time I have a mind blowing night, that experience is stored in the memory bank. Therefore, any subsequent conquest is going to be compared to the mind blowing one, and more often than not, will not live up to it. The more time we spend in LOS, the more greater our expereinces will be. I met one amazing girl a year ago, and even now, I still sthink about her every day. My subsequent trip was a disaster, because every girl I met couldn't compare to the one a year ago. Yet, if I take the first girl out of the equasion, the trip would have been superb.
It's a bit like seeing your favourite band for the first time. They walk on stage and there they are, your heroes, and you walk away saying it's the best concert of your life. If you see them again on the second, third and fourth nights etc... you will walk away still loving the group, but the buzz won't be as high as the first night. The group hasn't changed, but you have.... pretty much the same with LOS.
Yes, the go go shows are less outragous these days and yes perhaps the internet takes away the "mystery factor" of the nightlife... but generally speaking there aren't many better places on this earth.
