he paid all the other costs (such as food, hotels(?). traveling fare and other things) but didn't give her extra cash in front for the time she spent with him.

Do not pass up the opportunity to meet her, but do it on your terms. It is asking too much of her to come all the way to Bangkok, even though it is only a few hundred baht on the night bus from anywhere in the country. You go visit her.
You have to keep yourself safe, and visiting her is the best way to do that, and less hassle for her to try to get time off, but then if she is a good girl, she very easily will not want you visiting her, so she protects her reputation.
This is a very easy way to tell how "good" she really is. If she has no qualms at all about you visiting her, then be on your guard when you do. If she actually is "good" girl, then she will not want to be seen with you by any of her friends after dark, or even be put into a situation where she might be seen.
I caused quite a stir for a girl I know when I sent her a gift for Christmas. She just expected a card, and gave me her work address to send it to, but I sent chocolate, and word spread very fast through her government work that she had gotten a "box" from overseas. It caused big problems for her trying to explain to her friends, and workers who it was from.....lolol. We will meet, but only for lunch the first few times, and with her friends with. That is how a conservative "good" girl behaves.
I have had them not meet when it actually came to time to meet, because of their conservativeness. Good Thai girls are very time consuming, and you have to treat them with kid gloves. Above all, never lead them on. You could end up dead if they are in fact good girls, and you cause them to loose "face". At an extreme reaction wise, you seriously could take that big leap off the balcony. They can be very vengeful if you burn them. So whatever you do, do not lead them on.
If you are above board with them, and they still want to meet you, it could very easily be the best time you have ever had in your life. Many men have given up everything from meetings with genuine Thai girls, and then do everything they can to constantly return to Thailand. Be ready for this too.
Don't pass up the opportunity to meet her though. You have chatted with her, so there is some kind of connection. Be above board with her when you talk, and you could very easily have a very excellent start to your vacation.
There is the possiblilty it might not work out, but that can happen with anyone, be it a bar girl, or a gogo girl, or a freelancer, and they can be just as clingy, and hard to get rid of. Don't think that just because they work in a bar that they couldn't psyco out on you. That happens countless times.
You will have fun whatever you do, but I would not pass up an opportunity to meet the person you have been talking to about Thailand.
To protect yourself, it might be a good idea to get a second hotel for the 2 days she comes to visit you, if she does come to Bangkok. That gives you a safety net if she does do something bad. But meet her, you've talked to her, and she wants to visit you. What can a few days hurt at the start of your trip? You'll have the whole rest of your trip to console yourself if it doesn't work, and if it does work......well.....book your next trip on the off seasons, the plane tickets are cheaper.
There are allot of people on this board that are recommending you not meet, but only listen to what could happen, just to be on your guard, but don't let it stop you from what might be the best time of your life.

I still advise against meeting her. if you were an expat, then yes you should meet her but as a tourist you stand absolutely no chance of turning this into something meaningful. Unless you want to deceive her, why waste both your time?
Trust me, you will be much better off doing the P4P rounds.
And for those who advise to see her at the end of the trip, I also think it is a waste of time because the last 2 days of your trip, you will want to see the 2 or 3 girls (P4P) you really liked before getting back to your country.
Or you want to meet a regular girl, listen to her crap for 2 days, hold hands and go to the movies.. then regret it while on your 10 hours flight back and the 2 months that follow?

I am in Pattaya now my wife doesnt know -
I make sure I am sober and playing Australia drama or news when I call her-
I change hotels after the 3rd day every time-
This means the shame game of lots of girls on Short times is fixed - fresh slate-
Also the girls hungry for more loot sometimes make fly bys - I also like not following a pattern -
