Exactly. For the hierarchy to be internally valid, the people in all strata have to achieve a consensus.
If the girls can rearrange the pecking order sothey are on top, then it isn't internally valid.
This thread is confusing me because some of the guys are talking about a ranking of the entertainment venues (or their girls) according to the guys, not as the girls see it.
I was talking about the girls as they view themselves by category/venue.
And I agree that $$$ has a lot to do with it. The painter-bar girls like the member club girls, are costlier, and pickier about who they go out with (I suppose).
Historically at least the Patpong bar girls were/are more expensive than the Nana/Soi Cowboy girls.
My earlier point was about a matter of freedom of choice that supposedly gives bar girls an edge (social stratification wise) over massage girls. And that is that bar girls can refuse a guy, massage parlor girls basically can't. This isn't a money matter (at least directly). The bar girls are independent contractors, the massage girls are flat out day labor (well, night maybe).
Maybe this is bullshit that has been passed around too long, maybe it used to be true and isn't any longer, maybe it is still true.
I dunno.

I'm starting to feel a bit self concsious about constantly praising your answers but my only other choice is to just repeat you all the time. Once again, bullseye.
The thread has indeed diverged. IMHO All of your clarifications are faultless in its facts and I concurr completely with your opinions. (yeah I know, who cares?)
As to your comments on Patpong, SEE ALL OF ABOVE. (BTW at least I got the cause and effect joke).

Now for the boring I'm An Old Hand Too bit (this ought to aggravate Jumping Jack rather nicely):
First exepienced Patpong almost every night (some of the time working some of it partying) for 15 months in 82/83. Then the off and on from 86 (again some for pay some for play) to 93. I mention this only to point out that I had ample opportunity to observe the ebb and flow of the Pong - which I did, keenly. It has changed for the worse and, dare I say it, that includes KG. It went COMPLETELY downhill long ago (indeed to me that was the Beginning of the End of PP), but it used to be quite different when it wasn't yet a Group. There were people who tried to stop the decline but the individual with the most power in that Group and arguably in PP itself, had a vision and he has realised it in the KG of today. Pathetic (and frustrating as hell to someone who once had av ery different vision.with the influence, backing/connections, capital, brand recognition they had- think what might have been done).

I really don't know much about the KG except that I don't like their style. From my friend Jimmy, the mamasan at Superstar (which is not part of KG, but of the 2nd largest but nameless 'group' consisting of Khun Therd and two of her brothers) I gather that KG did used to be different, Jimmy worked for them for 17 years and I'm told she set up most of their bars.
But all that was before my time. When I arrived, Superstar was under the control of the supreme commander, Big Jod, via his security chief Col.'Watt', who acted as bag man. Jod assumed control after the previous "owners", a pair of American twin brothers, got busted by DEA for conspiring to smuggle a boatload of ganja from Vietnam to USA. Probably you know their names as well as I do so no point in mentioning them any further. Anyway Big Jod was associated with the same business group I was (at quite different levels of course).
Because 'Watt' first took me to the Superstar, and introduced me around, I couldn't get a check in the place whenever I went back, at least for a while. At that time Superstar extended all the way to Patpong 2, with gogo in front, restaurant in back, and disco upstairs.
It was some time in mid 90s after Jod retired and his influence waned, that Therd's group got control of the place. I like those people, but, Superstar has declined like the rest of the street since then. It is still about the only gogo joint I patronize, mostly because Jimmy is still mamasan there, and Oot the manager.

I too won't get into names but yes I am aware of/know all the players you mentioned and some others you may know. (Long ago, I almost wound up in that camp).
I would mildly object to any one person's claim that they set up most of the KG bars. There was/is an approved formula and very little variation is allowed from that.
Let's not forget there are the powers behind the various cliques and there are powers behind Patpong itself and links between all of these entities.

Big Jod died of cancer, Watt left the Thai Army and I haven't seen him for years. The business group fell apart in 95, and I only kept a few people as friends and partners out of the original bunch. None of them with any ties to the nightlife business, as far as I know.
