Well I certainly think you hit the nail on the head with your 59yo civil servants. Surely it's far better to suffer a bit of heartache than end up like that? "O shit, I seem to have pissed 40 years of my life straight down the toilet". You live your life or you don't.

Where does this bet come into it? As so often, we seem to have ended up confusing 'emotional involvement' with 'making a commitment'. To my mind these are clear different things.
I 'develop feelings' for BGs for no better reasons than that I can't help it and I enjoy it. I know that sooner or later there will be a price to pay for these pleasures, and there is. When that bill arrives, I pay it. This is how romantic love works and always has done.
What exactly is the problem?

On further reflection, Iíve decided that you are a disgrace to the Romantic movement. That you - a fully paid-up fan of the Pre-Raphaelites - cannot take a spot of unendurable agony over a girl in your stride is just absurd. Did Waterhouse paint in vain?

Met a FL on the last trip. Had a great time for a couple of weeks. Before departing I set up the email account for her and just so happens I kept the password.
Also prior to departure I checked on the health of the family buffalo and he is fine. I made a note to myself this is not looking good for her mother.
Sure enough last week week got an email and mother is sick. Damn I am good ain't I. Anyway I responded that I had been in a terrible accident, broke my hand and will not be able to work for oh about 4 or 5 months.
Now for entertainment I check her email. Only one so far from a guy in Sweden, but she is ignoring it. Maybe I should reply for her.
One never knows if I will see her in September.
