Let me put it this way:
We are being taught, in the west, that by treating a woman with utmost respect, admiration, and love we will get the same in return. As you might have figured out, in 99% of all cases, this does not hold true (it also makes you pussy-whipped). Disregarding the fact that this is often told to us *BY* women, who tell us one thing, and invariably want another)
Now, why do you think this tale, which doesn't even hold true in its own culture, will somehow apply to a foreign culture?
You are assuming that respect, admiration and love are reciprocal - from what I have read on this and many other fora, they are not. The very concept of 'love' is different in thai culture - so if you are going in with that misconception, IMO, you are setting yourself up... to write us a really entertaining FR a couple of weeks later

If she cant type or read english, that is in your favour, as often its indicative of a girl relatively fresh to the scence ( ie under a year). and that increases the chance that she might be very real. On the other hand (very good scammers) are always saying that they cant send e-mails. That reassurres you faintly that she is paying some nice internet girl especially to talk with you. Ofcourse some do,...all day long, to many..on their behalf. If you want an insight check a few out (internet cafes) its scary sh_t. I even saw girls posting superbaby type pictures, and claiming to be them (the sister) and asking for airfare from chang mai to bangkok. And most did....Meet you soon darling!.....while they were in bangkok. The scams are endless as are the ploys trick, and measures. But good old experience, and some faith often show good results. Take your girl to that beach destination, and let the 2 weeks be memorable. Illusion or not have fun!

Actually, now that I think about it, I realize my error. "Doesn't it make sense" is talking about what is logical and any guy whose has even the smallest knowledge of women knows that "logic" and "women" don't exactly go together. Well, "logic" as men understand it.... basically saying that men and women think differently. Don't mean to be cruel here towards women, don't get me wrong.
However, I'm still off to Thailand in June and (as Dirty Guru put it), illusion or not, I'm going to have a memorable two weeks.
