Maybe I'm actually one of the poor, in some 50 Baht an hour internet cafe before I have to get back to the construction site? It's quite possible that we've been here for 70 years and are still poor. I mean there are others who have been here for 800 years and are still "going" nowhere AND in debt.
The poor don't need any help staying poor. They do just fine on their own.

I personally have spent weeks / months living rough / squating / living in busses in Europe (never claiming social security !!)... When you dont have enough for a big mac, and you have not eaten in 2 days your poor... I dont care where you are from or what you do...
In New Orleans (mardi Gras) when I was 22 or so I was robbed for everything I owned.. I woke up in a strange country with no contacts and no friends, the clothes on my back (dirty) and a towel... 5 years later I had my first million... Opportunity abounds for those that hustle in any economy.
I just fee that the whole culture is one accepting of the problem as long as the men of the society get the rewards.

From a broader perspective, Thaksin is nothing new at all. I find it strange that many online seem to not like him.
1000 years?  Informal survey of the Issan working in the factory at this moment... so far no one on the assembly line can name any of their great grandparents. I think one of the basics of having a family is keeping records.

Bottom line is that the entire family knows, but play ignorant to save face.
But who's face are they saving anyways?? Everyone knows what their daughter does for a living given the amount of money she brings in every month.
And yes, I understand the Asian way of "savin' face"!!
It is a sad situation where some families pimp their daughter, gf's or wives out to bring in the $$$, instead of the male going out and getting any type of a job.
So, for all your newbies. In general, when a females says she needs to go home because her parents don't know what she does for a living is most likely yankin' on your chain. And probably is going home to hubby or her bf. Of maybe she just is tired and does not want to boom boom any more!! ha ha ha!!
