Jacob: I think you have received some good advise here, but I question why you would want to take a generic gift to a person you haven't met yet? If I read your question correctly, this is either your first visit or you are new to the bkk scene entirely. I would save the gift money and use it for spending in bkk.
I frequently take "gifts" to long standing GFs on my visits, but ensure it is something they cannot get locally.
