... maybe just reading the articles I cite on the prior page will give you a sense for the reality... while discounting Thai government agencies is easy, the UN, the WHO, and a number of other international agencies have dedicated significant resources to solving nutritional deficiencies... iodine deficiency is number 1 on their hit list because it is so pervasive, so impactful, so easily solved and so inexpensively treated.

Your conclusions are not too far off. In the US they made a similar discovery in the 1980's when studying children in Southern Louisiana (mainly New Orleans).
It was revealed that the average IQ was far below that of the rest of the US and that was after adjusting for cultural differences. Much research went into root cause and it was concluded that the high percentage of lead in the water systems (most of water systems in this area are old and used lead solder in the piping) along with a high level of phosgene (from the chemical industry) in the air.
Recently they revisited the study and focused on the children of participants in the previous study and they found that those who left Louisiana for good after Katrina had significantly higher IQs than those who stayed or returned shortly after the storm.

Dont know about study and iodine, but what I do know is that I travel a lot and never seen any other country where the locals do amazingly illogical and stupid stuff day after day after day.
Just look around yourself when you are in Thailand...
Some examples I witnessed:
- some construction workers, one painting a wall and the other waiting to smash said wall to pieces with a sledgehammer
- some electricity worker, repairing a faulty electric wire...with their bamboo lader hanging from the very same wire, with the base of the bamboo lader in a pole of water...
- A tuk tuk is out of order, so another one wants to help and pull it to bring it to the repair shop. What do they do? Well, they attach the front wheel of the dead tuk tuk to the exaust pipe of the one in front and fo they go...or try to go...
- A guy who add some of those stickers that look like bullet impacts on his car, and then drill some real holes in his car to make it look more real, then rust start and he fill the holes with PLASTER, then of course plaster being acid it rust even further so he add more plaster and concrete to fill the holes...until the whole door of his car is a mass of concrete&rust&plaster and cant open any more as it will fall out because of its weight...

Mad Frog,
I work in sales for a major international construction company and always take pic's on my trips back to show my colleagues.....put it this way OSHA, in America, would not approve of dudes with jack hammers in flip flops LOL!
Last trip, I especially got a kick out of the project manager leading his crew in calisthenics before their shift at 7am 555!

i think I can explain why tgs are the best at what they do..
its their simple mindedness. they dont think about things like having 200 diff, sex partners every year highly increases chance of cervical cancer.
