I'm not sure it's quite as stark as this.
Most parents don't 'send' their daughters off to be prostitutes. I think most girls in the main P4P recruiting grounds (principally Isaan for the farang-oriented scene) are aware of the option, and go to Bangkok or Pattaya of their own accord. Often, if there is no pressing financial problem back on the homestead, they will hold down a badly-paying conventional job first before drifting into P4P as a result of peer influence.
There's nearly always a cover story for home consumption. No one 'really' believes this, on the other hand it suits everyone's convenience (& saves everyone's face) to pretend to. I think Thais are very good at believing in what is congenial rather than what they know deep down to be true. And sure - no-one complains about the money which gets sent home.
Given half a chance, the girls themselves are quite good at believing that they're not really prostitutes. How much easier must it be for their families hundreds of miles away?

Apologies for yet more femminist crab, but I for one DON'T think there is anything inherently wrong with being a BG. Sure, it's a dangerous career and many of the girls f_ck themselves up badly and have nothing to show for it. I think for others it is probably the best option they could have taken, and it does lead to a better life for themselves and their children. A lot depends on the girl's strength of character, of course. Also on her intelligence. Also on luck. C'est la vie.
Like many millions of other people, most of these girls have been dealt a poor hand by fate. The one strong card they have is their youthful attractiveness, and they play it for all it's worth. Sometimes they win. What's so bad about that? Surely it's better than having no cards at all?
Anyway, good luck to them. To my mind, a BG who is trying to make the most of what she has is worth far more respect that some scion of wealthy parents who makes nothing of the best education money can buy.

That is only half the point. 'Understanding the whole thing' is also important. If you reread Mr. Cartero's post and the other posts trying to explain things to you, the answer will become clear to you. Your negative post to Mr Cartero was not logically based.
Read the post by Mr Arcadius directly above mine.
What he says is logically based, and is difficult to disagree with. In fact he is spot on.

Asolutely correct. Because when they are surrounded by their peers, it forms a 'shield' around them, allowing them to see only their fellow peers doing exactly what they do, so it becomes normal, acceptible.
Similar to what members of this forum do. They enjoy and find peers that accept their actions in the P4P scene.
But remove them from the 'shield' of this forum and guess what? Most if not all would say, "While I don't think there's anything wrong with being a BG, I wouldn't want my daughter to do it."
Remember? That is what Mr. Cartero said in the first place.

Right, nothing disagreeable with Arcadius's and fastmover's last posts.
The fact remains that if given the chance, BG's would not be BG's and the BG's FATHERS would not be the BG's FATHERS.
I think you both have lingered my anger towards the post of J.Cartero showing me that there is a lot of considerance toward the BG's and that that "controversial phrase" is a way of expressing it.
I guess the BG (cultural difference, poverty, chances, less fortunate, etc) issue could be and has been discussed in many different writings and everybody sees it the way that better suits each individual.
Let me take this opportunity to say that,
I'll be gone for a few month's now with little access to the net. But I enjoyed this Forum very much and definately will be back.
I really think that we could have great discussions with many people here (so many points of view, so many different cultures, so many different experiences etc.).
I think that things would be understood much better if meeting over a bottle of wine instead of the net, but of course this unfortunately is not always possible.
I really hope to meet some of you one day to widen my experiences and seeing things in many perspectives.
I have been in Bangkok now for over ten years (come and go) and have to admit, lately not so much in the P4P scene as I used to before. Still keeping track of the ongoings and different night venues and the eventual escapade. I might got carried away by some of my posts but maybe I just wanted to get noticed and that was my way of doing it (got some respond, didn't I).
I'm by no means that moral inclined person I have been pictured here nor a femi-nazi and so on.
I just like a good conversation (even arguement) about things I like to talk about and interest me, and with pleasure I saw that many of you posters here do also.
Don't get me wrong now, I don't need your acceptance or understanding or agreeing, I just meant a good conversation in some ways is better and more understandable and bares more fruits then just accusing each other on the net, where things once missinterpreted can easily get out of hand.
Beliefe me I enjoy LOS more then any other country in the world with all it's + and - es just as much as any other person on this board.
Im not defending my post's, to which I stand, I only want to express my interest to this board and to all the members for their great posts(sometimes funny, not so funny, informative, argumentative etc.) wich are in different occasions missunderstood and could be much easier comprehended face to face.
The RT's are definately a great Idea, credit to the inventor.
Before I sign off just a little something to put the house in order.
I'm in fact, Mario and Italian (not a plumber dough) a MALE and maybe here in Bangkok too long and sometimes feel offended by the behaviour of some farangs which I observe in the so often mentioned venueues. Maybe I generalized and compared this board to those. My mistake, probably the farangs I see have never heard of this board and would not be interested in it anyway because it shows respect and consideration to the TG's and Bargirls to some extend.
Yes P4P is great and I feel privileged that I have the possibility to indulge in it in Thailand or anywhere else.
Well I could go on and on but surely I would bore some of you so I better leave it at that for the next few month's.

I think the intellectual reasoning in this thread is worthless ... None of you are right, none of you are wrong ....
There are many ways BG's float into the circuit ....
- pushed by their parents / family
- sold by their parents/ family
- exchanged by their parents /family
- going on their own initative
- being encouraged by existing BG friends
So there are fathers who push their daughters to be a BG, and there are fathers who don't ....
