Competition is fierce in the bar girl market place - it is a good investment on her part to burn a few baht on email and text messages to keep you interested in her and promote return trade - I call it good after sales service. She will make her money back plus interest in one night with you.
She lives in a 1000 - 2000 baht a month room with up to three other girls. You spend a years rent just to get on the plane to come to her country. To her you are rich. Very rich. When you go to dinner and let her order she will order more food than you both can possibly eat just for the experience of being able to eat her fill and still leave food on the plate. You are rich. Very rich.
She is taking a month off work to learn English. You are right it is a big financial hit - how can she do this? Easy - she has a sponsor. He is paying for her to quit bar and to go to school perhaps while he organizes a visa for her to come to his country.
My then TGF lied to her sponsor and live-in BF so she could come to Phuket with me for a week. When I found out about them I was kinda flattered - sure it was probably the money but I tell myself she really wanted to spend that time with me.......Enjoy.

I paid for the room and she would eat at a local food cart. She paid for her own meals for the most part we ate seperately as it was much more expensive to order thai food in Greg's kitchen on 2nd Rd. We did go out to lunch and dinner together. I'm not that much of a cheap charley. 
No she was not from the FLB. She's 40 y/o good looking women, small shapely body always with a smile on her face, easy to get along with. She was the subject of my mamasan logic topic in money matters. From what I was told by the english owner she had worked bar for one month and had never been barfined. I was her first falong and she stayed with me for two weeks last October/ November. I paid her 500 lt. She liked me but didn't like selling her body. When I left she quit and went back home to work on the farm. When I came back in January, I looked for her and mamasan told me she had quit. One of her girl friends called her and let her know I was in town and looking for her. Two days later she arrived at my hotel. I told her what I could pay and she was happy with this. I plan on hooking up with her when I come back in July. She told her girl friends she's looking forward to me comming back. I'm staying with her because she's alot of fun and I enjoy spending time with her.
The main reason the older BG are willing to go with me for less money because I come back to see them and you would be surprized at how important it is to them to know that someone cares about them. I don't bs the girls and tell them I love them. I do treat them to the American boy friend experience and they love it.
All the girls at the hotel I stay at and I don't try and date them. Tell me, what a warm, friendly guy I am. They enjoy talking to me and try and fix me up with their older sister, girl friend and in one case her mother.

I hear you. Unfortunately, there are too many unknowns in this situation. Maybe this, maybe that.
The possibility that she has a sponsor never crossed my mind... but I suppose it's possible. Who knows?
I'm content to continue as is and wait for June to come. At the very least, I'll have an excellent (though expensive) vacation in Thailand. At best, again, who knows? Anything's possible.

I remember a conversation I had with Bimmher a month ago. He was talking to a BG and she said she could go with him but she had to leave at 6:00am. He said "I need to find out why she has to leave at 6:00am". I told him "She said she has to leave at 6:00am, leave it at that. If you ask her, I'm sure she will tell you a reason. It might be true, it might not be true, but what do you care? She could have a baby to take care of, she could be staying with family who doesn't know she works bar, she might have a boyfriend, she might have a husband, she might work in an office and have to go to her "regular" job, she might have a sponsor who calls her at 6:05am every morning (proving that she could not possibly be going with customers if she is always available to talk to him!) The bottom line is that she told you one thing that you know is true - she has to leave at 6:00am. Don't ask her any more questions when the answers are irrelevant to you.
Sirtitus, if your BG is taking a month off and trying to learn more English, good for her and good for you. I know you're dying to find out why? How? But these are irrelevant questions that will get questionable answers. You don't need to make her lie to you by asking these questions.
Never mind all this, sirtitus, don't let it get in the way of your fun. Fun is what this is all about!

Nice point of view: "Don't make her lie to me by asking her questions which are ultimately irrelevant".
Take the "Ignorance is bliss" mentality.
And, you know, I should. I'm here in Korea, she's in Thailand. For the next 3 months, I don't know what she's going to be up to. In the end, it really isn't even any of my business. Curiosity is a hard thing to master though.

I was about to write these same exact words!
When NanaHottie was around here, I found out that she had permanent "sponsor" in Japan and also a guy from Singapore that was sending her money every month. Both these guys were under the impression that she was "exclusive" to them. I'm sure when they asked questions, she gave them the answers they wanted to hear. To her, it was very simple. They were paying money to know that she was "exclusive" to them, so that is what she told them. As customers, they got exactly what they paid for. Did she lie to them? Well, kind of, but it is irrelevant, because they were paying her to lie to them.
JapanGuy met her as her customer in a massage parlor, and SingaporeGuy met her as her customer in a gogo bar, they do not live in Thailand, how can they possibly expect her to treat them any differently? (OK let the flaming begin) :boxing:
JapanGuy was sending her to university and had her working a part-time "real job" to keep her out of the biz. Did it keep her out? She found time to go to Koh Samed with me! Like Minder, I was kinda flattered.
Should these guys really expect anything else from her when they are hours away from her, and she has family, cousins friends, etc. all with their hands out when the NanaHottieGravyTrain cruises through the village?
The fact that these "sponsors" saw themselves as boyfriend/husband/whatever does not change NanaHottie's perspective of them as customers. Me think her grip on reality is much tighter than that of JapanGuy and SingaporeGuy.
When working, NanaHottie was in the top 5% of wage-earners in Thailand, and this is BEFORE sponsorship money! Still, I still felt a little sorry for her... everyone always had their hands in her pockets. But when you consider that the average wage for a middle class executive in Thailand is 20-30,000bt (Hotel Manager, 2nd/3rd in command at a Bank). Rent is usually in the 3-4,000 bt range, usually shared with others. Girls working in shops, factories, restaurants etc. are lucky to earn 5000bt per month, on which they live, AND send at least 1000bt to their parents. (thanks TPE for the figures here)
Keep this in mind if you start to feel TOO sorry for these girls.
You want something to feel bad about... one of my current girls, Nina, makes mega-bucks by Thai standards. She's 18 years old and she makes twice the money that the manager at my hotel makes! But I have little doubt that she will have nothing to show for it in a few years... saving money is something that, even if she was inclined to, won't happen because everyone around her (family and friends) knows there is a new GravyTrain in town. Nina's very intelligent and belongs in university, but EVERY influence in her life tells her that being on her back in the way to earn money. That's what is sad. 
And I can't do "thing one" about it.
