Actually they are surprisingly good about not defaulting -no one wants to lose the only piece of property their family owns-. And I was kidding about the factory. We employ them to work in an office environment -it takes some adjustment to work somewhere without a gogo pole or perm/hair drying machine, but they can handle it- and give them pencils, pens, and other misc. office supplies.

I'm sure it happens. I mean after all they typically are spending beyond their means anyway. But regarding loans they have taken out on items they deem valuable and which would perhaps be a loss of face to lose, I've found that they seldom default, often paying interest 2-3 hundred % beyond the original principle. I suppose it'll depend on your survey sample.

i always wondered about the way someone will pay for their entire lives a little each month and meanwhile they're paying like you said 2-300%
i know a few loan sharks who'll loan out 10k and get back 30k (a tiny bit per month) and still be hounding the debtees for more
one family borrowed 2k, and are now in debt for the same loan for 20k because they keep defaulting every other month
another one of the prime reasons TGs turn into BGs, to pay off their out of control loans.

It would appear the consensus here is that the family knows but turns a blind eye on the activities.
The girl knows they know but keeps up the facade for her face. The parents know but keep quiet to ensure the 'flow' doesn't stop.
So my next question in this scenario is, how long do you think the average girl stays in the profession and what happens to the 'family flow' when she quits?

You mean the time in between generations of young girls and the line of succession from mother to daughter who becomes a mother whose daughter becomes another earner?
For the family there is no 'quit', only who is next.
Which in turn is the reason most families turn a blind eye.
It wasn't the first time, it will not be the last.

So how long does the first one stay on.... how many years? From 18th birthday to 30th? That would still leave a gap of a number of years where the dosh would be scarce before the granddaughter hits her prime.

if a BG has a daughter at the age of 22, she's still able to quite the biz at 40 and let her offspring take over... 18yr old
some BGs have children at the age of 14, before they became a BG, and in many cases necessitating the BG lifestyle...

However if the bargirl has luk krung (half caste) offspring, the family may be lucky enough to have a music industry/television entertainer -a profession with a potentially longer shelf life than the avg. bargirl- in the family to provide "flow", or at the very least high potential mia noi material to bring revenue to the family.
