I've been to Thailand 20 or 21 times, my trips last from 2 weeks to 2 months I've lived in Asia for 18 months on two different occasions. I also lived in Europe for 3 years. I added this: 20/6/04.
I've been around the block with these women a few times and no I haven't been "burnt" by a Thai women. My wallet has but I can live with that.
The guy who comes here on a two week vacation the women are a powerful drug. You think you hit nirvana with one. For the two weeks that your here all you have is is a summer love, hot passionate and it tends to burn out after a few month's.
BigDusa - Stereotyping these girls as all being money grabbing airheads is no more correct than saying everyone on this forum is incapable of getting laid without paying for it because we are all to old, fat or social misfits. They are all different - as are we.
When a guy asks a question about women, it's difficult to not write with a broad brush. I never said they are all money grabbing airheads. High % are. I've met a few that are level headed, honest and would make a good marriage partner.
SWEEPING GENERALIZATION AHEAD
For the most part Thai women don't travel well. They are bound to their family very tightly. They don't adjust well to cold climate with few friends and a husband who's gone all day working. They get bored easily and they have a hard time with the reality that your not a rich man back in your home country and you have to budget. Adult BG seem to have the emotional maturity of a 15 y/o. See how they act when things don't go well. Some will trash all your stuff when you are gone.
So ya wanna marry a Thai women bunky. No problem if your willing to move to LOS and away from the nite life

This thread really lit up the score board!!! Excellent info, details, and life experiences.
My two stang to add:
Delete "bar girl" from the sentence about getting married. It don't matter what profession they have.
I suggest the "one year" rule.... you need to know, really well, any woman for at least one year before you should get married. Bar girl, nurse, stock broker, etc.
And it doesn't count to visit Thailand 4-5 times a year to run up a cummulative amount of time, nor "we talk on the phone everyday" stuff. You gotta "know them" by hangin' with them for an extended time.
In my warped view, the most uneducated female is smarter than any man. They can drive us mad by not talking!!! They can drive us mad by talking!!! And it has nothing to do with what language they speak!! Someone tell me how that works?
I also think they (women) are genetically defective. For all the brothers out there from a Judeo/Christian religious background, Eve was taken from Adam's rib, hence my conclusion that their genetic modification has altered them for eternity!

There are hardcore bargirls that will be forever damaged goods. There are hardcore women in every profession that are just as damaged. And all of them have the ability to get fixed.
As for moving them away, I would imagine there are many brothers who have had experiences with 'moving' the wife from home to a foreign land only to have it turn out disasterous too. Moving is very traumatic to the most stable of people. Shouldn't be a surprise that a girl from Thailand has a tough time in the West. Many western wives, GF's have the same problems being moved to BKK. (In many respects, I think it has to be incredibly intimidating for a western woman to move to BKK. She looks around and sees as many beautiful girls everyday that we do, and does the comparison to herself!! Ouch!!)

For what it's worth, here is what I have done when making similar considerations:
I have been to Thailand in my work since 1993 and went through all the classic stages of beeing in AWE with the beauty of TG's and their female ways, the exitement of discovering GoGO Bars, Beer Bars and Karaoke Bars, the over-the-top indulgence when I learned the code of conduct for getting a TG LT, falling in love with the TGF experience these ladies provide etcetc.
I decided I wanted to find a real TGF. I have no hang-up's with Bar Girls, in some of the better bars there are intelligent and funloving girls, however I thought maybe I can increase the chance of making it work by finding a non-BG. However, how to do it?
What I did was I went to some of the Dating/Marriage agencies, Sweet Singles and ThaiNo1 in BKK.
I dated several of their girls in BKK and had pleasant fun. I felt a bit uncomfortable with meeting them this way at first, but that quickly faded. I wrote quite a few stories about my escapades and the later dating a couple of yrs ago on this board.
The last 3 years I have had good contact with one of the girls. She is from Ubon, has worked abroad before, speaks reasonable english. She is 35 I am 49. We have agreed to go serious about it.
I am comming to LOS in July and will spend a few weeks with her and with her family.
My main concern is not the cultural differences between us, but how she may miss the Thai climate/culture and family.
One approach I am muling on is buying a bungalow in a nice resort, like Jomtien, HuaHin, Rayong.
Compared to Europe the prices are still very reasonable.
It can serve as an attaction for her with regards to annual visits to LOS and as retirement home for me/us later.

If/when the Visa comes through, I will bring her here for the ridiculous 2 month engagement. If she makes it through that time OK, I will have a pre-nup agreement that does not allow her to clean out my assets if she leaves. I will give her the 2/year trips back to LOS and if she doesn't come back, life goes on. She has pretty strong family ties, but is also infatuated with the American life style. No illusions, this will be tough on all, but i'm not walking in blind, thanks to all the reading on this board.

Just curious....when marrying a TG can you do it in either country or is it necessary to do it in both or if there is a choice....which is best?
I also wonder if the prenuptual would hold up at all? She is a dirt poor woman and thus has really no power and I could almost see a judge ruling against any restriction of her rights to half of everything.

I married a TG in the equivalent of a registryoffice in Bangkok. When we applied for her visa the Brit' embassy folk were happy with the documents as it was accepted as legal in both countries. I made sure that I had Thai and English translated originals attested by all the necessary Thai Gov' Depts.
Divorce was equally easy. Got divorced in England and this was accepted by both Governments and my (now) ex-wife signed a document that was part of the Thai papers, to say that she had no claim to any goods, property, cash etc., from me. I believe that in Thai law the wife is able to claim half of all possessions, savings etc., that have been acquired after the date of the marriage. I don't know if the Brit' Government would recognise that though.
