just my opinion on the topics. I'm frequently coming to LOS since the early 90's and my rating would be - yes, things have changed, definately.
I'm used to stay in the peripherie of BKK, so in the early days I went downtown to attract a petite gal which was most likely a question of minutes or hours. Always the more difficult part was to get rid of them rather then to get them.
Nowadays it's not impossible but requires a lot of research and hassle. Moreover, - due to the cell phones and easy dating they all disappear quicker as you would expect or wish. Nobody is willing to please you longer term except you're offering marriage or 100% sponsoring...
That's my observation, so I changed my behavior as well according to the easy maths " f*** them and pay them " -
Short time and quick dating are " in " and develop to a standard especially for the younger/prettier hookers. Furthermore the BKK P4P scene seems to be brain washed by the Japs which 100% support this tendency.
Sadly, but I believe things will getting worse.
Anyway, f*** as long you can and enjoy...

If I may inject one of my infrequent comments...
Looking at it from the viewpoint of a Bangkok-stationed girl-on-the-game, supply (of punters) pretty much exceeds demand, especially for the good lookers. My theory centers around the corruption of the playing field, mainly due to the ready availability of 'How-To' information about getting to BKK, logistics, and the micro-reporting of the p4p scene that occurs here.
Don't get me wrong: it's inevitable that people who couldn't find their ass with both hands can find Lolita's by learning to use Google, and forums like this (my favorite) do much more good than harm, IMHO. It's just that when comparing the 'good old days' with the current scene, there is a definite disadvantage in providing GFE, when you can pull down three ST from Internet-educated newbies in one evening...
Although I don't claim Vietnam War-era experience in Thailand, I know enough guys who were there then to know that they were highly prized by local women, as good companions, and cash providers. Even as recently as my first experience in Thailand (1981), farangs were still coveted, and in relatively short supply.
And it works the other way round as well: news travels fast from BKK toward the mooban, and Thai girls are not generally unclever. The pretty ones know their value.
Now, that said, there are PLENTY of slightly careworn ladies all over the provinces, and even in BKK, that will still deliver the GFE, wash your clothes, clean your room, and your tubes, all for minimal support. They just aren't superstars, sideliners, or even B girls...just less spoiled that their instant-gratification-fueled little sisters.
Of course, the wily punter won't look for such women, and would be hard-pressed to find them during their two-week, non-Thai-speaking annual pilgrimage.
So, men, the problem seems to me to be one of expectations - on both sides of the fence. The lower you go on the desirability scale, the better the chance of the GFE.
Personally, I have transmogrified into a play-pay-and-get-the-hell-out kind of guy. But that's just me. The GFE holds no fascination. But I tend to have a REAL GF who doesn't come from the P4P scene. My baser instincts are satisfied 30 - 60 minutes at a time...

haam sup, glad to see you posting again. And your point was the premise of this thread, you just articled it better than I. It's always nice to hear everyone's take.
The guy that introduced me to LOS worked here during the martial law period. The girls were just grateful to find a warm bed for the nite, make a few baht before curfew. There were no starfishes or broken promises, the girls did not want to be on the street after curfew. Yes, farangs were a lot scarcer commodity then and coveted. And, I am not claiming you need martial law to get a GFE. Just telling a story from a by gone era as it was related to me.

Dunno why I don't like this "good ol' times" whining...
I'm afraid it's an inadequate (?) picture... In the old days it was only a couple of lucky guys who came to LOS... some soldiers, some salesmen, some desperados... And then *we* the sex tourists discovered LOS... It was *us* who created this current situation. *We* made p4p a succesful business model for so many TGs...
Like: Ohhh goodness, this beach is so crowded, when I discovered it a few years back I was the first and only tourist to come here and deal with the locals, and now... buggers...
Like you want a cheap direkt flight to the island and when you disembark you want to be the first human to set your foot on it...
I wouldn't like to pop a cherry everytime I meet a TG... I like them easy to handle, no g/f or marriage hassle pls...
I have my nice little herd of regulars ready with the right choice for every purpose, some party girls, some naughty bitches and some warm hearted and in their own way good girls in the p4p business (Ohhh yes!) for the heavenly GFE times I frequently have in LOS...

Nice to read everybody's thoughts on this topic.
No whining here; just pointing out that, indeed, times have changed.
You may have picked up a subtle hint of disapproval of the current crop of 'Please tell me the number of girls in Wild Country, and rate their skills on a 1 to 10 scale...' dimwits, who are afraid, or too insipid to take a few minutes to find the place and do their own survey. Guilty as charged: I don't like 'em.
For every poster like Joe Wood, and others, who have pushed the boundaries of the happy hunting ground, and reported their findings here, there are five who need it handed to them on the Internet equivalent of a parchment scroll 
Still, as you say, we created the current situation, and it suits many of us.
I know it is abrasive for many to hear that there once was a different Thailand, and I am a recent enough arrival to have had some sand kicked in my face by those who were here long before me. But my main point was that my own needs have changed, too, and GFE has little or no importance to me these days. Pleasantness is all that I require, and no illusion about being a 'boyfriend'.
For the record, I *do* appreciate the Thailand that once was, and I am comforted when I find that traces of it still exist, however far off the beaten track.
