I occasionally fantasise about a move, but I think your advice sums up the real situation with many of the girls.
My current girl is a gem also, and I can get off just watching her sleep.....so attractive. She is great in the sack also. But she also has a lot going on I don't know about (or care to) that takes her away from me for hours during the day, maybe three days out of five. I'm generally in town five to eight days.
This might just be lunch with girlfriends etc. but it could be any number of things unsavoury, from another farang to a Thai BF.
I have thought it over, and realise any girl I have here will have a life independent of me....stop fantasising....I am better off a visitor to paradise than a prisoner of it.

Good advice, and that's exactly the reason why I only smirk when people ask me when I will be moving to Thailand (since I'm there so often) - I prefer to enjoy my visits, so I prefer visiting.

The absences will be for one of four things, in my experience.
The first will be her Thai boyfriend. It may even be her husband. Has her "brother" or "father" called regularly?
The second will be family. Mum may well be waiting for her share of whatever money the lady receives from you.
The third will be other girlfriends.
The fourth will be another farang. Any girl who has worked the bars will have a few regulars who reappear either weekly, monthly, or annually on holiday. (maybe even Daffy Duck). See how willing she is to change her simcard in order to figure this one out.
For these girls "having a relationship with a farang" is their work. Nothing more. Some are better at it than others, and some guys even believe they have a girlfriend.

Any of these are possibilities, that I'd not want to waste too much in the way of thought processes on.
At the same time, I need always to take a reality check knowing the possibilities, because 'she is indeed good at' treating this farang very well (at least when she's with me)

Not necessarily true, unless you limit your girl search to the bars. If you fall in love with a hooker, what do you expect?
Life here is the same as everywhere else. Take the easy path and you'll enjoy short term gains and become a long-term cropper. Conversely, invest time and energy and the rewards are great. This particularly applies to relationships with Thai women.

There are no shortcuts in life.
There's a lot of talk on this forum about the fabled 'GFE'. I don't understand the concept. I don't want the illusion of a girlfriend. I want a girlfriend. Unfortunately, having a girlfriend brings shit as well as roses. It involves effort and rewards, fights and make-ups, misunderstandings and moments of clarity.
Invest the time and energy and prove yourself to be dependable, and real Thai girls will repay that tenfold. Do that with hookers, and what do you get? A few orgasms and moments of tenderness while you watch her sleep, then anguish of knowing she'll be getting a facial from a 5 foot Jap guy in the morning.
It's an easy choice.

I'm marrying my Fiancee on 11th June having known her for 11 months, but having only been with her in person for 12 days.
So, is she truly not respectable? My impression was that she comes from a good middle class family (that I've met), is University educated, never been involved in P4P and has a good job in an Estate Agency.
Perhaps she's just the exception that proves the rule. Or maybe you're right and I'm heading for a major disappointment.
