First intersting read I have seen on the Forum in a long time.
My two cents is that we see these changes everywhere; it is the product of the evolution of the local society. From a business standpoint LOS is getting wealthier and this is pushing up the prices for decent housing, food, transportation, and the like. These being the case the business owners are putting pressure on their managers (mamasans) to improve the production (cash intake) of their employees (BGs).
Recently I was talking to a BG with several years experience that was complaining that her quotas have risen significantly (my words) in the last year and the fines for not achieving quota have got heavier. It is a matter of survival for these girls so they react accordingly.
It also does not help that the government has cracked down on the bars and the P4P industry. This has reduced the supply of ‘providers’ whilst demand (with the exception of Phuket) has increased.
On the other hand, in Singapore we have seen an increase in supply as more ‘study-mommas’ and ‘social-visitors’ are plying their trade on Joo Chiat and Geylang. This increase in supply has created a buyers market and prices have dropped whilst service has improved (Note that this may not apply to Orchard as the girls there figure that the tourists they service are not adventurous enough to leave the ‘Tourist Strip').
As for PI, demand has also fallen there as many companies have pulled their Expat staff until the government/social situation has stabilized. Whilst there is a tourist trade, the ‘bread and butter’ for the P4P industry was the large number of unaccompanied Expats who were there to provide steady business.
Jakarta I cannot comment on (my fiancé works there so BGs are off limits) except to speculate that the threat of punishment by Islamic Law has limited the amount of locally based demand and Jakarta is still not on the ‘radar’ for the average ‘sex tourist’.
I do not think that age has anything to do with it as there are good and bad ‘punters’ both young and old…

As king of the old-timers - I can only say I do feel sorry that the young brigade dont at least have the chance to view the old "thermae' in its heyday. This was when NO restrictions to bars / closing /shows / ages etc. were in force, a conservative 300 TGs would mill around each night from 1am thru till daylight, looking for an earn ' a 'purple' or 500 the normal rate.
No doubt the reforms in the Nightlife are for the better, and of course there are much nicer, newer drinking holes around these days - but for those that remember it, the Old thermae, and the soi 13 area, is something that will never be forgotten.
