Can't stress one common theme that I read here - TAKE SOME TIME TO GET TO KNOW THE GIRL!!
One comment on family, IMO, Thais family structures resemble many immigrant cultures in the west. Those immigrants always tend (or tended) to stick together in their small communities... i.e Italians and European Jews in NYC, Pakistanis and Indians in UK. These groups are (were) always looked down upon by the rest of the population until they assimilated into the society.
The point of this, if any brothers are from this type of ethnic background, you will already know and remember the strength and power of family. I think this is the same for Thais. It is very insular here but still very accepting of falangs.
It all takes time... and a lot of it.

Insightful post and you realize how hard it is for a guy to pull a women out of Thailand and for her to be happy in a foreign country. No doubt there are exceptions to this but I would think they are few especially when you have a big age difference.
This not meant as a slam but what does a guy whose 40 have in common with a 20 something. What do you talk about? How can a women with a limited education and I don't mean limited intelligence relate on a day to day basis especially when you have so few common references?
I hang out with older expats when I'm in Pattaya and a large # have major problems. Doesn't mean they are not decent guys to talk to but I never would turn them on to the non P4P women I know. Some guys on this forum think I was referring to them. Since I don't know them I'm not.

Big U.S>A alot of your posts are to those with enough experience in thailand, true and hard to distribute in some respects. A point in case would be family baggage. And also thai disappointment in money terms (ie your not wealthy) But you quietly make a few assumations that are not in fairness to many here. % is one thing, but high? I personally first want to conceed a point that was made, regards age differences. My marriage was 17 years difference. And it wasnt an issue, infact its within the realms of accepted in all cultures (that age difference) however the assumption by western woman, (often correctly) that they are from P4p scence makes it tough. Also I conceed that education made it tough. Comics in bed etc. But thats again alittle assumptive again. I know some very well educated bar girls. Go walk across to carosal bar, the only girl with glasses there. Speaks fluently 5 languages, and holds 2 university degrees. Very brilliant in bed too. My current girl was married and drove a black BMW in singapore, university level. And for those reading this cynically in bangkok, walk into the bush garden bar next to themaes. At 5 pm most days a 25 year old girl called anna plays pool, very shape clear eyed smart girl. Completed a political science degree. Infact its relatively easier to find an attractive younger woman in thailand that is educated then in your own country where your not rich enough, too old or they are not interested. As for older yes your right. I am now doing a 32 year old. But she looks younger. But sure point taken. I still think 25 is ok though, and the above point of education is relevant to most marriages. Though a queen of hearts needs only her love to carry you. Pattaya guys Big USA hardly make up a composite picture of men and their suitabilities at home to farang woman. Its a cheap charlie magnet. And though I love the place also. Dont stay in 400 baht a night dives, and hang out with old nags. Fresh fruit son! Thats my bag. BUt power to you. Your years make a 40 year old a sweet looker, thats fine. Ofcourse that illusion of superbaby whispering in my ear a sweet nothing exhausted after f_cking doesnt hurt any. Makes for a one word mid life crisis cure.......""Thailand"" But sure guys get stooged. I am currently debriefing a mate who just had his first ''love you long time trip"' he believes because she was a waitress that she must therefore be just. She played him very well, and I am in two frames of mind as to keep reminding him it most likely was a con. Again chances are I am right, but its a sweet illusion, he enjoys it. Thailand gives many romantics a fix, really or not. Sad? well a f_cking cat sitting watching a movie on saturday night is sad. I believe love exists. I felt it. And do again. You have married 3 times.? Well whose to say thai marriages are doomed. Infact % wise some work well. But again I urge you to on balance dont sterotype too much. Like me saying all freelancer girls are dogs and below par. That ofcourse isnt true. But again alittle truth distorts doesnt it.?

I can't help but to ask the question (cynical or not) - what does a 40+ year old guy talk to any woman (20 yrs - 100) about?
In general IMO, the only common interests are friends and family. Sports? I doubt it. Other girls you are doin'? No freakin' way. Work issues? Not unless you have the same employer and even then, you will not often see eye to eye on an 'issue'. Communicaion is not overrated but I think we all should be realistic in what we can effectively communicate about and with whom.
This forum may be an example; we are communicating about many things that 20 year old Thai girls don't care about. Also, put in that category 40 year Thai ladies and 20 - 40 year old western women as well.
So age differences seem to become immaterial with regard to what you eventually have in common. If the girl loves you and vice versa, you find that common ground for communication. But the communication will never be about all things to all mankind.
Having a great roll regularly really is icing on the cake.
But I reiterate, I believe any relationship takes time before one takes the "plunge". That is only my suggestion to the brother asking about marrying a bar girl.

I think the biggest fantasy I have seen so far is BigDUSA perception of Thailand and Bg's based upon his cheap watering holes and cheaper girls. The mistake he makes is extrapolating this limited exposure to the entire country and propagating this viewpoint as to the way it is in Thailand.
You get what you pay for and on BigD's budget you get the problem girls along with the farang yahoo's that frequent these low-level establishments.
The high percentage of guys I met or associate with in Thailand are successful people, but then again I don't hang out at FLB looking for 500 ST/ 1000 LT.
