I was in Cactus the other week when three fairly young western men had their western 'ladies' dance on an end of the stage with wobbling rolls of blubber and dirty underwear.
It was enough to put me off my food. Luckily, I was able to finish my drink and make a quick exit, feeling very sorry for John who was trying to do his diplomatic best to calm them all down so that he wouldn't lose all his customers.
What those three guys were thinking about, I have no idea.
It's one thing if the bar or the dancers invite someone onto the stage for a turn and a laugh. It's quite another for a drunken party of idiots to invade a place and spoil it for others.
Everyone, including the dancers were just waiting for these six wild and drunken revelers to leave with their sodden memories of joy.
I don't go out for the evening expecting to be corralled into being part of an audience for some drunken clowns starved of attention.

That works best when you have two super hot Thai chicks on each arm, are laughing it up, and then ask them that - particularly when you throw in "...when you can have these for less than $50 a piece all night long!"
I found that tourists who go into these places on a lark, have absolutely no idea how things work, or what the costs are - they assume it's $200-$300 for an hour, or a couple of hours, so aren't interested.
Talked to a newbie from Alaska (of all places) once, who was in town on a trip with 4 of his friends. They were laughing it up, but were mostly huddled together. Struck up a conversation, and when I asked them if they had some of the local flavors, I got the usual "Oh, we're not into prostitutes" and a little bit of digging revealed that they thought the girls were $150-$200 each for a 1 hour romp - "just like in other parts of the world" and they had no idea how "the system" worked.
I took it upon myself to educate them 
When they figured out that short time equals 2 hours or so, and was only $25-$35, and that the option to take the girls back to their own hotel existed - it was like a veil was lifted, and they beat each other up for spending 2 days in Bangkok and not figuring this out. I acted as a bit of a facilitator back then.
Good times, Good times!
Not the only such incident.
Older guy at my hotel always hung out at the pool, when I was having fun in the water (actually giving swimming lessons) to the same couple of girls over a couple of days, and was very complimentary about my "family", when I explained to him that they were "more like girlfriends" - big EYES "Really?" - a little "sit down" talk followed. The next evening we all took him along for an evening. I only found out 2 days later that he was married, with the wife at the hotel too - whoops.
Good times, good times.

many a married man have been ruined by the fruits of Thailand......
MY first experience in Asia was in 1983... I was all over Asia but at this particular timeI was in Hong Kong... a 50 something year old guy was chatting with me at a bar... He was a SENIOR guy at General Motors... came out on business, quit his job and left his family.... he said he finally discovered what he was looking for all his life.... This story still sticks inmy head....
