VJ: Thai gov can stop users from viewing thai porn sigts by kicking outta the country those indivduals makeing there porn from girls in thailand.
EX the dude that makes asian street meat gets girls from right there at Nana plaza.
Easy to shut down that operation simply by telling the guy his visa as been revoked and he needs to be on the next plane outta town. Therefore shutting off his sight for viewing due to lack of material.

Isn't it funny hoow gov't officials always try to ban that which they use judiciously themselves - yet never provide a real solution.
The easiest and most effective way to get rid of all that which they call 'filth' is to install an effective social support system, and social services for the poor, invalid, infirm and old. Just a pension system would eradicate a large percentage of the motivation for p4p for those providing it.
But that won't happen - so....

And as in any capitalist market, if you remove one manufacturer another will spring up.
But I'm not talknig about just porn sites. I'm talking about the dozen forums, the dozen "columnists", the several dozen directory sites, the several dozen sites that venues run, etc.
All the Thai gov't could do is close those that are hosted in Thailand (ultimate stupidity if anyone is doing this!), and prevent access to them using Thai ISPs. Which amounts to doing just about nothing since the producers and consumers are 99% offshore.
Another classic case of Thai gov't officials totally overestimating their own importance and influence.
Hzink, you miss the point. No pension system is ever going to cut into p4p. Half the girls are doing it to buy luxury goods and most of the rest are doing it because they've either been sold by their parents, or have been been browbeaten into it by their greedy parents. It's relatively rare for a girl to go into the trade out of genuine financial distress.

From what I read it seemed to me that the Thai government were trying to influence what was seen in Thailand by Thai people, not what was being said about thailand from overseas.
That's about all they can hope to achieve...limiting access for residents.

I used to know someone in an Internet place in London. He was some type of ex-military special forces(not S.A.S)
He knew Thailand quite well but claimed it was only from holidays? Anyway he used to surf nanaplaza.com or something like that. He was always getting banned(then change his handle and continue) because his posts were far to political on all levels.
The moderator/administrator was always paranoid about upsetting 'someone' ? And would always give the excuse that if he got too political he would get shut down or worse. I cannot verify if this was just an excuse or not.
This was in 2002 and I have not seen this 'character' since last summer. He had a major chip on his shoulder abut something. Don't know if it was his employer or a Thai woman. He would only give his name as 'Dave' ?
This is just an experience and prompted me to start the thread. I cannot say if the threat to websites is valid or not but as I have said it has happened in China and Saudi.
