The article is poorly written and not researched. It says Mexico City records 15,000 murders per year. Actually, the murders in Mexico City are between 2.1 and 2.5 murders per day. This is less than 1,000 per year, not 15,000.

Thailand isn't as bad as Brazil or Nicaraqua or the USA. Every home and business south of the USA border all the way to the tip of south america are all mini fortresses. Razor wire, barred gates, barred windows and more razor wire.
As others have stated, the blog isn't researched very well. IMHO Somalia and Iraq are more dangerous than Afghanistan.
Mexico does deserve a high ranking, the drug cartels are very powerful, police are corrupt and public officials and scroundrals and thieves.

I have always felt safe in LOS, had very few troubles.
A lot safer than down town Sydney Australia.
Of cause Sydney is filled with English stalkers.

A friend of mine went to Australia, the customs officer asked him if he had a criminal record, He responded, "I didn't know it was still required", he was detained till they determined he qualifed as a British Stalker, he was allowed entry.
I also feel very safe in LOS but some consider Thai street walkers to more of a menace than English Stalkers. Go figure
