It was not Gandhi who drank his own urine . It was Morarji Desai who was one of the past Prime Ministers of India who was also a teetotaler .
When he visited the U.S. there was a cartoon in the Washington Post showing 2 U.S. Diplomats at a dinner hosted for Morarji Desai and one of them was complaining , "Because of Morarji we have to toast with water instead of wine " & the other Diplomat says , " Just thank God we don't have to toast with his other choice."
There is also a joke of Morarji Desai meeting the Chairman of Budweiser and saying to him , " You know , you and I are very much alike ." The Budweiser Chairman was quite taken aback since Morarji was a teetotaler - so he asked ,"How so ?" And Morarji replied ," Well you drink your own products and I drink mine ."

Budweiser is like horse-piss so Desai was correct !
There is a pub in Mortlake(West London) that sells the very fine Youngs Beer. It was next to the rival Watneys Brewery(now demolished) . One day a customer entered the Youngs pub and asked for a pint of Watneys.
Quelle horreur !!!
"Sorry sir we only sell Youngs Beer!"
So the customer asked for the nearest thing to a pint of Watneys.
He was given a pint of water !
Great protestations and letters of complaint to the Youngs Brewery - The reply from Youngs?
-'Actually our staff were correct! The specific gravity of Watneys is Y+% The specific cific gravity of water is Y%. The specific gravity of Youngs Beer is X%. Therfore we believe that water was the nearest thing to Watneys that could be served!'-

BTW, if you are backcountry in the U.S.A. and have the good fortune to be bitten by a rattlesnake, a good first move is to piss on the bite, unless, of course water is nearby. Why? Because the fangs of rattlensakes do not inject the venom from the tips, and quite often a portion of it ends up ON the skin, where it should be washed off immediately to prevent absorption. Don't cut and suck.
