Keep the argument sensible...forget me.

Your claim was clear.

That navy divers jump 90 feet into 10 feet of water.

Link?

We have all seen cliff divers or kids jumping from high points.

You scoot around what's at issue here.

That your navy seals do so with only 10 feet of water under them.

Can you show this to be true?

Ninety feet into 10 feet of water.

All personnel in US Navy basic training are required to jump from a 90 foot tower (27.43 meters) into 10 feet (3 meters) of water. The way they teach you is to go feet first, arch your back, cross you legs at the ankles, and cross your arms on your chest.

I have now also had a reply from a naval base of divers

Quote

Regards your email enquiry....that a 90 feet jump into ten feet of water is a basic training requirement.

""The claim any organisation incorporates that into "basic " training is a wank"

So CS you now need to show where in Training the Seals are expected to Do that jump......

And......in basic training

where can I locate such information?

Your not just making stuff up are you?

Please don't take offensive....it's just that you said ""I shouldn't comment on stuff"

And you were condescending.

Interesting...

A falling human will reach 99% of this terminal velocity in around 15 seconds. This would cover a fall of approximately 600 metres (2000 feet). For reference, the CN Tower is 553.3 metres (1,815 feet) high. So there's no "difference" in falling from anything taller than the CN Tower. Your maximum speed will be the same.

In a 1942 paper, physiologist Hugh De Haven told of eight people who survived falls of 50 to 150 feet on dry land, many with only minor injuries. The common denominator: something to break the fall or soften the impact, such as loose dirt, the hood of a car, or, in one astonishing but verified case, an iron bar, metal screens, a skylight, and a metal-lath ceiling.

In 1963, U.S. Marine pilot Cliff JuBKins's chute didn't open after he bailed out of his crippled fighter. He fell 15,000 feet into the Pacific, suffered numerous broken bones and a collapsed lung, but lived.

U.S. Army air force sergeant Alan Magee fell 20,000 feet from an exploding B-17 in 1943 and crashed through the skylight of a French train station. (A lesson emerges: Aim for the skylight.) Though his arm was shattered, he lived too.

When his bomber was shot down in 1942, Soviet lieutenant I.M. Chisov fell 22,000 feet into a snowy ravine. He was badly injured but recovered.

Luckiest of all was RAF flight sergeant Nicholas Alkemade, who leaped from his burning bomber in 1944 without a parachute at 18,000 feet. After a 90-second plunge, he crashed through tree branches in a pine forest and landed in 18 inches of snow. His only injuries: scratches, bruises, burns, and, in some accounts, a twisted knee.

Flight Sergeant Nicholas Stephen Alkemade (1923–1987) was a tail gunner for a Royal Air Force Avro Lancaster bomber during World War II who survived a fall of 18,000 feet (5500 m) without a parachute after his plane was shot down over Germany.
On the night of March 24, 1944, 21-year-old Alkemade was a member of No. 115 Squadron RAF and his Lancaster II, "S for Sugar", was flying to the east of Schmallenberg, Germany on its return from a 300-bomber raid on Berlin, when it was attacked by a Luftwaffe Junkers Ju 88 night-fighter, caught fire and began to spiral out of control. Because his parachute was destroyed by the fire, Alkemade opted to jump from the aircraft without one, preferring to die by impact rather than fire. He fell 18,000 feet (5500 m) to the ground below.
His fall was broken by pine trees and a soft snow cover on the ground. He was able to move his arms and legs and suffered only a sprained leg. The Lancaster crashed in flames, killing the pilot — Jack Newman — and three other members of the seven-man crew. They are buried in Hanover War Cemetery.
Alkemade was subsequently captured and interviewed by the Gestapo, who were initially suspicious of his claim to have fallen without a parachute until the wreckage of the aircraft was examined. He was then a celebrated POW before being repatriated in May 1945. (Reportedly, the orderly Germans were so impressed that Alkemade had bailed out without a parachute and lived that they gave him a certificate testifying to the fact.) He worked in the chemical industry after the war and died on June 22, 1987.

Looks like tree tips broke the fall......nil mention of shallow snow..

But who knows?

Re....focus...

This debate is about basic training claims.

Not survival

Are the Australian naval base statement it's ""A Wank"" the logical reason for such claims?

Remember.....basic training

90 feet into ten feet of water.

Without demeaning Americans..they do watch Hollywood movies a lot.

And tend to think their men are superheroes

Reality often disappoints.

DG,

You should not talk about those things you know nothing about.

All Navy recruits get this training... why? Because the deck of a loaded Aircraft Carrier is about 90' high and if you were to have to jump from one you need to know how to land.

But I understand your ignorance DG,

So DG, before you go talking crap about something you have never experienced maybe you should think twice and keep your mis-guided opinions to yourself.

Please prove the Aussies Wrong

Could this help ? Of course, this is not on a navy site, so this is no definite proof :
http://www.livestrong.com/article/390616-us-navy-basic-training-swimming-requirements/

You must be able to jump into deep water from a 5- to 10-foot platform and find your way back to the surface easily. This activity simulates jumping ship and entails a particular set of rules regarding body positioning. You must not bend at the waist, and your head should be held high. You legs should be crossed at the ankle, and your arms should be crossed over your chest. You should use your inside arm to pinch your nose, bracing your hand by placing your pinky under your jaw. This keeps you from losing your grip from the impact of hitting the water.

No mention of 90 feet here.
