No one seems to know what is going to happen. I have tried to get info on the 6.00pm opening times ( this is my biggest concern) but no one seems to know, however I got a reply from the Thailand Tourism Authority and they said it is only closing times that will be affected and not opening times, although I probally think they dont know much about it either or they are bullsh_tting.
Only way to find out is go over there.

Just out of pure and simple curiosity, why are you so concerned about opening times that you are so willing to go and contact many parties looking for an answer? As opposed to closing times? Are you interested from your standpoint as a consumer?

This is going to be interesting. Let's see... discos in hotels will remain opened till 2 AM bars not in the zone will close at midnight... which means there will be more BGs in the discos, if they have not already been barfined.  Watch out for Nana Disco (Angel Disco) and the parking lot.

Easy. Show up at odd times. Check the date of the license and if they are open when they should not, make them pay you a big bribeto go away. You do not pay, then they close you down for a while.
It is the same old system with a new twist: the date. Up until now they were also many different licenses -which dealt with the kind of things you could do/have at your venue. Many places have licenses that allow them to do some things but not others.

So, this would mean, then, that everything we know *WILL* remain the same, and only new venues licensed after March 1st will be subject to new closing times? Must suck if you bought or took over a bar after March 1st, as you'd end up surrounded by bars that can remain open longer than you.

See it starting to change already? Draconian laws and proposals don't last very long. Expect the 2am closings to return again in quick time. When the US votes out The Bush Administration, whom are influencing all of this garbage as world leaders take a copy approach to his policies, they also will see the growing amount of anger against it and those policies fail. Wait until the landslide election when Bush loses. Then things will change the other way.
What we are seeing are policies to strip the poor and make them poorer by regulating their income source, so the rich get richer. It really has nothing to do with sex and tourism, only money and control of that money. The regulation of the Thai media 2 years ago was a prime example that failed. But that will change when Administrations change, so keep a watchful eye. The poor who have the same smarts as the rich, only to not have access to the distribution of that money, will not want to be poor anymore.
I think Thailand's PM is a good guy. He wants to make Thailand a rich state of businesses like Japan. But unfortunately, he cannot and should not over-regulate it in comparrison to the economy he faces in his country. Now getting all the Cambodian beggars and stray dogs was a plus. Continue that, please.  But the reason everyone likes to go out at night is because of the cool temperatures. So keep it cool, thanks.
