I dont think it had anything to do with London getting the Olympics. To co-ordinate something like this takes a lot of time and planning. Who the f*** would want to blow people up because of an Olympic bid. However it was the first full day of the G8 summit and Yurunne mentioned before that the trial of Abu Hamza started yesterday. A lot of the police officers (and probably other emergency services personnel) in London have been sent to support the local police in Scotland, so it was an ideal time from a terrorist point of view. However I do not believe that this was an al Quaeda attack, like 9/11 or Madrid. Still a fundamentalist Islamic group, but not nearly as organised or devastating as a full al Quaeda attack could have been.

Quote: from DaffyDuck on 10:35 pm on July 7, 2005 I wonder what the repercussions will be?
Probably another f***ing war in some third world country that had nothing to do with the bombings. This is justification for Bush that terrorism is alive and well and he needs to invade another country...... Who's next? Iran? North Korea? Any countries in Africa with oil?..... SirTitus

You called it Duffy! I am surprised it took 4 pages for the first pro-terrorist comment to show up... For the bros in the UK: my deepest condolences for your loss. With so many commonalities with us, Yanks, I wish this wasn't one of them. Thank you for your courage and your support since 9-11, we can only offer the same in return. When any muslim cleric will be half as upset about the delibarate slaughter of the innocent in the name of Allah, as they're upset about an "infidel's" mistreatment of the Koran I'll consider Islam other then a death-worshiping, bloodthirsty, murderous cult.

The UK has been at war with terrorist in one form or another for many years now. And sadly terrorism will remain a threat, both now and in the future. A threat not only to the UK and its friends, but to the whole civilized world. It will not go away until the whole world unites and stamps out these fanatics once and for all. People complain about the "big brother" state. But it is one way of containing these assholes by checking and cross checking their movements across borders. I believe that there should be metal detectors and bomb sniffing devices at each underground station to try to eliminate the chance of a repeat of this slaughter of innocents. So what if it means another 10 mins or even 2 hours on a journey. My life is well worth 2 hours of me time any day... Then, one by one eliminate all the other "soft targets". The technology is certainly there. It won't stop terrorists altogether, but it will protect the otherwise unprotected innocent public. After all who's money is paid in taxes to the governments of the civilized world, ours! In the not to distant past the payment of taxes ensured that the king or whoever was in charge used it to build and maintain an army, not only to protect himself but his/her subjects. When they eventually catch these sick bastards and any others involved in these terrorist outrages, they should stand trial and receive a just sentence. Life in prison. Not death! Life in prison. But not a nice life. Force them to receive visitors (in a soundproofed room) from the families of the victims on a regular basis. Mix them up with the other prisoners (for a good kicking) when they do not have visitors. Give the other prisoner’s time off, for giving them a good kicking. Force feed them all the stuff they are not supposed to eat. Cut their f***ing hair off. Don't let them pray to their god. Put them in a round cell that turns slowly, so they don't know where Mecca is in order to be able to pray Keep them in chains like they do in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Don't give them access to the media. Keep them in a dark cold damp room sleeping on the floor. Tell them all sorts of (false) stories about how their families are suffering at the hands of sadists... Tell them Mecca was nuked by Israel. Tell them they will be executed and then after you line them up against a wall. Take them back to their cells for slap up meal. (See above) Better still put them in a controlled environment and set off a small explosion to maybe just blind them, or make them deaf or lose an arm/leg etc... Send them to Haiti and have them turned into Zombies. Just don't kill them... Keep them lousy f***as alive... Tell them when they are close to death they will be frozen and kept in suspended animation so that they will never die, they will never see their god, nor achieve their goal of going to paradise. TC ps. Or just make them read DG's posts that will f*** em up!

Sadly the world needs to get used to the constant threat that terrorism brings. This so called 'war on terror' was, is and always will be a farce. Its bush pulling the wool over his people to show that he is actually doing something post sept 11. I doubt that there is a corner in the world that is 100% safe from some form of terrorism. My prayers go out to all affected by this recent cowardly attack on innocents. Peace.

You have a point there Abrak. Religion in one form or another is the key factor in fanatical violence against other forms of religion from ancient time’s right up until today. Fanaticism is rampant in all religions. With the exception being Buddhism, maybe! But who started it? How far back in history do we have to look to see that all peoples no matter what age, race, color or creed practice intolerance of others just because they have a different belief in something that has not been proven to even exist! I am no expert on religion nor terrorism, but I do not know of one Buddhist terrorist or terrorist act. If there is a god then he/she/it is f***ing sick! TC

Quote: from Abrak on 4:40 am on July 8, 2005 It is somewhat ironic that a terrorist act in London which has apparently killed less than 100 people has totally overshadowed the G8 summit which was ostensibly aimed at tackling African poverty that is supposedly meaning that 30,000 africans are starving to death daily.
I agree in part. I do think that Blair leaving the summit to go to London was the wrong move. Just gives the terrorists a victory. What Maggie Thatcher called the Oxygen of publicity. 24 Hour news of course will fill the airwaves with sketchy fact and speculation eclipsing other important stories. Yes it's news, it's important, but so is a lot of other stuff going on. Over exposure does nothing but help the terrorists. Beyond the individual losses the big damage of course is to society in general, the distrust, the security checks, the errosion of liberties. The AIM of the attack is not to kill a few people today but to make life difficult for millions of people for the forseeable future. I have seen in Saudi Arabia, companies spending a fortume on next to useless security measures just so they won't be sued if somthing does happen on one of their sites.
