I've been searched 4 out of the last 7 trips when entering the U.S. through SFO. On one return they stopped every unaccompanied male and went their his luggage and his laptop if he had one. Saw it with my own eyes as I was one of those being searched. The guy in the line next to me started shouting at them when they went through his laptop. I asked him on the way out what happened and he said they were going through his personal financial information. Witch hunts in the land of the not so free anymore.

Was that a direct flight from BKK? If not, were did the plane last depart from before landing in SFO.

Unfortunately, there are no non-stop flights BKK-SFO, yet. Maybe someday. TPE is where I usually make the connection. The customs people don't seem to look at the stamps in the passport, but what you write on the declarations form.

Hmmm. I guess that if a single male who visited Thailand is likely to be searched, it increases the risk of bringing back illegal software. Also, the next time I come back from BKK, I think I am going to ditch any leftover condoms since the Feds seemed to mention that condoms were found on some of the sex tourists they arrested. Don't bring back (or take) any candy either, becasue they might think you going to use to give to children (candy was also mentioned in some of the arrests).

NIOD !! frickin Bushski's post 9/11 anti-terrorist campaign has gotten every air traveler ParaNoid as Hell !! Instead of liquid detectors and other anti-chem/bomber detectors in all the airports, we USA taxpayers spent the last 5 years fighting Al Quada or so called mad bombers. It only heightned the problem; AKA Religious Wars have happened since day 1 of mankind. $@#%#$%^ shit heads anyway. Travellers should be able to go anywhere in the world without hassle. John Karr the freak should be locked up with the keys thrown away. #@%$$@#% idiot that wanted Celebrity status. Hats off the the Thai police and immgration for throwin his lame pedo ass out of the country. Screw the Paparazzi press/media. Tourisism exist everywhere and so does sex and paid for sex. No, I think you are wrong on that one. This is totally different than 9/11 and terrorism, even if it is enforced by the same Federal Departments. What this relates to is "Operation Predator," an initiative to identify, investigate, and arrest child predators. That is why they are searching single men who have visited Thailand. There are now laws that prohibit US residents from engaging in sex with underage persons anywhere in the world (not just the US), and these laws were passed by Congress with overwhelming support from the left-wing, and especially support from feminists. So it not anything like a unilateral program of the Bush administration. Admittedly, there are some cases discussed in this thread that are related to 9/11 and terrorism, probably including China Sailor, who says he lives outside the US in a country with a large Muslim population and has "grievances" against the US.

People should be able to live in their own country without the ability of illegal aliens to enter their country and commit terrorist acts against them. Unfortunately, neither of these "should be able to" is the world we currently live in.

Twice I have been questioned about Thailand. Once at LHR where on an intra-EU trip I went through the 'nothing to declare' exit. I wasn't carrying any luggage and was stopped..... by a twenty something customs inspector (a woman) : -Where are you coming from? -Madrid -No luggage? -No -Passport please -Here (I am a UK citizen going into the UK) .... (she takes a some time going through each page of my passport)..... ... then she asks: -Where do you live? -Madrid (I was living there at the time) -Why you don't have any luggage? -I am going back tomorrow night. I have here in the pockets of my jacket (one of those photographer vests with lots of pockets) a pair of socks, a brief, and a t-shirt for change of chothes. I will throw away what I am wearing now. -Hmmmm....... -I see you go to Thailand a lot. -Was that a question? -Yes. Why do you go to Thailand so often? (by now I am annoyed - I am flying into England from Spain - why do my trips to Thailand matter?) -Because there I find easily what I cannot find here -And what is that? -Georgeous women to have sex with that are not trying to show men that they have balls ..... (silence)...... (she looks at the passport again page by page)...... ..... (silence)....... (time keeps passing)...... (she keeps looking at passport)..... (she make me wait about 3 or 4 very long minutes while just looking at the passport and then without looking at me hands it back)..... The other time was at customs at JFK. Again, I was not coming from Thailand... but from Spain. At customs the officer asks for my ticket. I show it to him. And here things start to get complicated. I had a Round-The-World (RTW) ticket bought in Thailand. I have no clue why, but he ended up making me wait while he checked the Thai/US$ FX rate so that he could figure how much I had paid for the ticket and then kept asking all kind of questions about the itinerary. The guy kept me there for close to half an hour, long enough to make me tell him that if he kept delaying me, I would "miss my connection and be forced to stay in this country, which I don't want to." Oh boy, this now really upset him and now came a very detailed search of my luggage. At the end he had to let me go, but he wasn't very happy. By the way, of all entry airports that I have used to get into the USA (SEA, SFO, LAX, JFK and MIA) I find Miami to be the worst.

A year or two before 9/11 (don’t recall the exact date), I stopped in Japan on my way back to the US from BKK. For some reason I had to clear Japan customs to catch my connecting flight. The Japanese customs agent was a female, and she asked if I was traveling on business or holiday. I told her I was on holiday. She asked if I had a camera, and I replied that no, I did not have a camera. The customs agent was very upset that I was claiming to travel on holiday but had no camera, and then proceeded to thoroughly check all of my luggage, even looking for a hidden compartments. Finally after about 10 minutes a male customs agent comes over and tells her to let me go.
