...guess my bar will be open late tonight!!

all sounds a bit fishy, curfew in place since 9.15pm.

is it all orchestrated by thanksfornuttin??

I mean, how convenient. he fired sondti yesterday. now he will probably speak in front of the general assembly in NY, and return as the keeper of democracy in thailand.

I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out...

Thai Army Commander-In-Chief Has Taken Power -Official
·
¶ BANGKOK (AP) --A senior Thai military official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, said that Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Sondhi Boonyaratkalin had used the military to take over power from the prime minister.
¶ The Thai military launched a coup against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday, circling his offices with tanks, seizing control of television stations and declaring a provisional authority loyal to the king.
¶ An announcement on Thai television channel 5 declared that a "Council of Administrative Reform" with King Bhumibol Adulyadej as head of state had seized power in Bangkok and nearby provinces without any resistance.
¶ A convoy of four tanks rigged with loudspeakers and sirens rolled through a busy commercial district warning people to get off the street for their own safety.
¶ At least 14 tanks surrounded Government House, Thaksin's office. Thaksin was in New York at the U.N. General Assembly and declared a state of emergency.
¶ "The prime minister with the approval of the Cabinet declares serious emergency law in Bangkok from now on" Thaksin said on Channel 9 from New York. He said he was ordering the transfer of the nation's army chief to work in the prime minister's office, effectively suspending him from his military duties.
¶ Several hundred soldiers were deployed at keys points in the capital of Bangkok, including government installations and major intersections, witnesses said. A dozen soldiers patrolled around the Erawan Hotel, a major tourist facility, in the heart of the business district.
¶ Army-owned TV channel 5 interrupted regular broadcasts with patriotic music and showed pictures of the king. At least some radio and television stations monitored in Bangkok suspended programming.
¶ The cable television station of the Nation newspaper reported that tanks were parked at the Rachadamnoen Road and Royal Plaza close to the Royal Palace and government offices.
¶ Local radio station Ruam Duay Chuay Kan interrupted its programming just as a reporter was about to give information from Government House.

for those that can not read the blue screen with words on TV:

At present the government reforms the democratic regime with the King as chief.
The army commander and national police commander have controled the situation in Bangkok and boundary areas already.
There is no opposition.
To maintain the peace of the nation we ask people's cooperation and forgive the inconvenience.

No, it's a coup by Bush with his Extra-terrestrial allies to take over the world, and replace everyone with pod-people replicas from the planet Zebulon.

'Coup' sparks Thailand emergency

Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok amid reports of a coup attempt.
Soldiers have entered Government House and tanks have moved into position around the building.

Mr Thaksin, who is at the UN in New York, announced he had removed the chief of the army and had ordered troops not to "move illegally".

An army-owned TV station is showing images of the royal family and songs linked in the past with military coups.

Correspondents say that there have been low-level rumours of a possible coup for weeks.

Thai media say that two army factions appear to be heading for a clash, with one side backing the prime minister and the other side backing a rebel army chief.

Our correspondent Jonathan Head said it was not clear which faction had taken the initiative.

He said there has been pressure growing on the prime minister to resign, including groups close to King Bhumibol, following a political impasse in which April's general election was declared invalid.

But it was thought that Thailand was making progress towards holding another election later in the year, our correspondent says.

Witnesses said several hundred troops were posted at key points around Bangkok, including at government installations and major intersections.

At the United Nations, where the annual General Assembly is under way, it was announced that the agenda had been changed to allow Mr Thaksin to address it in the coming hours.

I'm scheduled to fly in on Monday. Very interesting!

BTW, I was able to access The Nation website just now, but it's slow. Their servers are being jammed as the story was shown in the USA on ABC after Bush Jr's speech to the UN (which he didn't write, only read). As the story is branched out on all media, everyone will be accessing Thai based news sites.

Gyaos.

Local CNN was just bumped off the air. A "Sun Outage" [sunspots LOL] screen has just interrupted programming.

All local channel programming has been pre-epmted with the blue screen of Thai script playing some sanguine Thai music.

Wonder if my visa run to Laos out of Don Muang will fly at 11:35?
