I have not condemned the situation. I just said that even though it is agreed that Thaksin should be gone, it would have been better if a government change could have been made without a coup. I think the King would agree with that. The King has endorsed the new government in an effort to do what is best for the Kingdom, and there is no evidence he had anything to do with the coup.
Your claim that I don't understand the Thai people or Thai culture is blatantly false. The vast majority of educated Thai's are disappointed and somewhat embarrassed that a coup and revocation of the constitution was necessary, even if they agree that Thaksin had to be ousted. Anyone who says differently is a fool, which would not be surprising coming from someone who names himself after a cartoon character.
I realize that this is a LOS pussy forum, and the general level of interest in the Thai people on this forum does not extend much beyond the baht exchange rate and the price of a bar fine. I personally have a bit larger stake in the Thai people and their aspirations to become more than a second rate Southeast Asian country. Those who don’t should just keep their juvenile mouths shut and go back to watching cartoons.

When did Thailand get upgrade to a 2nd rate country? Still a third world country and coups will keep them as such.

Like I have said in the past. Thailand is FAR from a third world country in terms of QoL, Roads, Infrastructure, Manufacturing.
If you use the example of "Outside BKK" to call it third world, the same could be said for rural Mississippi.

True, that might make a difference to the professors, UN, and other do-gooders, but to the common man politics or politicians does not matter, and changes at will. There are plenty of problems with governments around the world in "First World" countries. There is no escaping it.
What effects the common person is QoL, Ability to find a Job (Manufacturing), Infrastructure, Roads, and can I get what I want when I need it.

It seems that Taksin will not be fighting his ouster but will wait for elections:
Taksin calls for elections
An additional report on US National Public Radio this morning quoted Taksin as saying that if he were not wanted to serve Thailand he would focus on research and development along with his charitable efforts.
BTW: Check out page three of the Reuters report where it appears that his support among rural Thais is still strong...
EDIT IN: Mr Alan, instead of pontificating on something you really know little about, why don't you do some reading/research before stating the opinions of what the Thais do/do not think. Like the rest of us, you are not Thai, you are a Farang and and everything you think, do, and say is influenced by that fact.
And believe it or not, the people of Thailand are not waiting to have their culture/government 'developed' into a Farang's vision of a 'First World' model
