ROTFL. Now that's a conspiracy theory I could drink to. And why do you supose they never found any Drunk Brits in the WTC wreckage? That's right - prior heads-up to them by their PIA (Pub Intelligence Agency). BTW Welcome back.

Quote: from Hermanolobo on 7:36 am on Nov. 6, 2003 The perception on this board is that most Americans are reactionary and believe in everything their President says or does and everybody else is a whimp and a liberal (lefty).
I think people who see Americans as naive reactionaries are at least 50% right. For the most part, we tend to ignore the issues and cultures of the rest of the world and only pay attention when they attack us. Then we go after some random target we’ve pulled out of our ass in the name of defensive patriotism. Nine times out of ten we’re attacking and/or embargoing countries that used to be on our own government’s ‘covert’ subsidy payroll like Panama, Afghanistan and Iraq. Relatively few Americans ever talk about the obvious conclusions you can draw from these repeated mistakes. Instead, they just focus on whatever the current president is told to say by his puppet-masters. I used to ask some of the more naive folks where they got their crazy mixed-up ideas about how the world operates, and then I saw FOX News. If you watch that channel long enough, you’d think America owned the whole damn planet and would be doing the rest of the world a favor by slowly killing them off with mountains of biological, chemical, and radioactive waste. In general, I don’t think most Americans have any ill will toward the rest of the world, but that won’t stop them from endorsing endless conflicts if the president tells them it’s necessary or that it will benefit the economy. Hell, most of my coworkers would proudly sell their mother for the right tax credit.

Just for laughs. Today driving in LA a radio station has a game that they play every Thursday. The game is "What the hell did Jessie Jackson say?" They play an speech excerpt and callers try to decipher it. It is the top rated radio show 8:00> 11:00 PM. After ten attempts they go to the next excerpt. Usually just one winner in the hour. So I guess, the Thai's will not be able to understand his speech, if we cannot understand him in the USA and this is the guy who is on the soapbox for better education for the poor. Jessie you better sign up for English classes yourself.

Corection if you don't mind: It is not 'Jesse Jackson', it is 'Je$$e Jack$on'. His latest hypocritical economic blackmail bullsh*t tactic (all for civil rights of course) was pouring a good can of Budweiser onto the ground on TV, proclaiming it a rascist company (everything is rascist except him, right)...oh, and his sons ended up with a major Budweiser franchise.

Agreed, I cannot believe the corporate pussies that do not stand up to him. Even most of the black people are embarassed by him and said they never voted him as leader/representative of the black concerns. I wish a true leader from the black community would stand up and take this blackmail crook to task.

ThaidUp, you miss the point, I think. The majority of black people would rather not be primarily thought of as part of the "black community". They're happy enough to be black, as a rule, and just want the same things that whites and asians and hispanics want -- a fair shake, equal opportunity, and most of all to be defined as individuals rather than a constituency. It is exactly the Je$$e Jacka$$ strategy to keep redefining and reinforcing the notion of a "black community" with himself at its apex. He is the very source of the divisiveness he claims to combat. The rest is just ego-driven autohagiography for personal gain. In the last 35 years, Jacka$$ has probably been responsible (if only indirectly) for more deaths among blacks than the CIA, the Klan, soul food and crack combined.

To that extent I agree, and with Hermano (Do you mind if I call you Hermano?). But 'ignore'?- yes, 'stupid'? - hardly. Don't make that mistake in confusing the two. In defense, although not a good defense, America is first of all geographically isolated, separated from most of the world by two oceans, a far cry from the absolutely necessary interconnectedness of Europe, of Asia, of the Middle East; and second, is a fairly self contained entity with most necessary resources readily available. To tell the truth, most Americans would prefer to be isolationist, and spend their hard-earned taxes taking care of problems there, but are only slightly in better control of their government after elected, than are any other citizens. Among other things though, 9/11 was a wake up call to that isolationism.

What it should have been is a notice that you can't have it both ways. If you want gasoline, you either need to get used to paying true market rates or be prepared to get a black eye from time to time for meddling with other people's social systems. If you want lettuce, you either need to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration or get used to paying $4 a head for when it's picked by Americans. It's human nature to over-value ones personal conveneince over the welfare of others, but sometimes blindness to the realities of how and why things happen in the world reaches obscene proportions.
